Only behind...the 2011 game between Pittsburgh and the New York Jets.

Who says East Coast doesn't control the dial?

Well they have 1/2 of the country's population.

I actually thought it was the highest rated AFC Championship Game since the Broncos/Browns in 1988. But yeah, TV ratings are always highest when it features two high profile teams in different geographic regions. For CFB, the Ohio State/Oregon game last year was the second highest rated NCG of all-time after Texas/USC in 2006.

It's not just different regions.

It's certain regions that move the dial.

LSU-Bama was one of the worst rated CFB finals of all-time.

Midwest/East vs. West moves the dial in CFB.

Certain Super Bowls have been likely low rated featuring teams in the same region.

East Coast doesn't have much presence in CFB but they move the dial in the NFL...Mass, Penn, New York, - that's the NFL.

Combination of the better time slot, a good matchup featuring "rival" QBs, and a large chunk of the east coast population being snowed in.
