He was dominant in the postseason. That is it.

Give me David Wells or David Cone over Pettitte

Wells and Cone pitched like 4 or 5 years with the Yankees. I'm not going to look but Pettitte is probably at or near the top all time in every Yankees pitching stat. If you have to ask why you either didn't follow baseball from 96-04 or you're a teenager

How the hell does Pettitte get his number retired before Bernie Williams? Bernie was a better player than Pettitte and more important to the team. He also spent his entire career with the Yankees and played more seasons for them. Pettitte left in his prime to sign with the Astros. Also, he retired seven years before Pettitte. I don't get it.

This isn't an argument for HOF, being the career leader in postseason wins for a team might just be enough to get your number retired with that team.

Terribly overrated and would have been a nobody on 90% of the other teams.

How so? He was always regarded as a really good 2 or 3 guy. Nobody says he's a HOF ace. His postseason stats don't hurt either.

He is top 5 on a ton of Yankees' pitchers categories. Most starts. Most Ks. 3rd in wins. Why wouldn't they retire his number?

He isn't a first ballot HOF that's for sure.

Not even close but he was still really damn good.

He reminds me of Jeter. REALLY solid numbers but nothing insane...but when October rolled around they turned it up a notch.
