So the Bears had 3rd and 10 from the SF 28 yard line and the game tied at 20 with 1:23 to play. SF had just used their 1st and 2nd timeouts on the previous two plays. The Bears opted to run it again and play for the FG, but Carey broke it off for 11 yards and the first down. The Bears are kicking the FG now for the win, but without the benefit of hindsight, was running the right call?

ETA Gould missed the FG.

I have no idea but that was a terrible FG attempt.

I love when coaches in the NFL "settle" for a 45+ yard field goal when they could easily run a few more plays to get a closer field goal, and it backfires

I remember Kubiak at Houston a few years ago who had 3 timeouts and 1:30 left on the clock end up just running it down to 1 and kicking a 50 yard field goal that was no good.

Terrible fricking strategy, but I'm a Bears fan.

Boger is lucky there isn't a literacy test. He can eat a bag of dicks for SB47.

In the NFL you have to pretty much assume if you can take the lead with a field goal and leave less than 90 seconds or so on the clock then you win. The exact opposite is true in college. In the NFL your kicker isn't supposed to miss basically ever from less than 45 and your defense should be expected to prevent a team from walking down the field to score in one minute. You rely on your kicker and defense over your offense in the NFL unlike the college game.
