"@RemkoMedia
Daniel just said he had 44% of himself. He had 50% but swapped some percentages. Very interesting to hear. #OneDrop"

He just entered the $10K Stud Event right after.

Wanna dumb down what "X% of himself" means for a non-poker player?

Betting on yourself or something?

The buy in was a million dollars. He paid 44% of it and other people paid 56% of it so out of 15 million he really only won 6.6 million

I thought this was the More Sports Board. Poker is not a sport.

I'll try. Investors give him money for a certain percentage of him in the tournament. This is $1 million buy in tournament, therefore you would have to invest $10k in order to get 1% of him assuming there's no markup. Markup is decided by the poker players determination of how much of an advantage he has over the field. Example: DN sells at 1.2 for this tournament. This means investors are giving him $12k for 1% of him in the tournament (you are paying 1.2% for every 1% you buy). Although I don't think DN or anyone would get 1.2 for this tournament considering the skill level of their counterparts.

DN cashed for $8 million (let's use round numbers), so for every 1% you invested, you would receive $80k. You could fill out a tax form and you will pay taxes on the $80k or you could let him withhold the taxes (usually about 30%) and send you the rest.

That should get you started.

I'd hope his markup was around the 1.4-1.5 mark. The guy I backed last year for all the events was 1.25.

Markup is an arbitrary number and should be tournament dependent.
