I love football but the rules favor the offensive game so much. Curious what some think about trying to equal out the severity of penalties on offense and defense.

Example it could be 3rd and 28 and but if there is a defensive hold, that comes with a five yard penalty and it is an automatic first down. So what if more penalties on offense resulted in a loss of down?

For example, holding usually prevents a defense from getting a sack or a tackle. Not to mention it happens "during" the play, would you support a five yard penalty and loss of down?

Does anyone like the idea of adding loss of down to other penalties? Or do you like a replay of down on offensive penalties that occur during the play?

I just envision being more pissed when my team gets called for a horrible holding call.

I actually agree with you 100% on this but think it sucks when there is an offensive penalty a defense has to be on the field longer...especially when playing an uptempo team.

I'd change the 5 yard rule on receivers.

Roughing the kicker needs to be looked at.

And penalties that are 15 yards or spot of the foul can be challenged.

Offensive pass interference should be however many yards down the field the foul is committed. In other words, if the foul is 27 yards past the LoS, then it's a 27 yard penalty.

They should start by calling holding on the offense more often.

The 10 yard penalty is more than enough. It is a drive killer and puts the defense in a favorable position to rush the passer and create turnovers

I agree with this...the five yard hold drives me nuts especially when you see a QB not even looking that direction. It turning into an automatic first down can make me cringe when they needed 6 for a first down.

It does but also makes them replay a down. In a way penalizing them to make an extra stop.

Well it also calls back a good bit of plays which is a reward that would counter that.

What happens if you get a holding on a punt?

There should never be an automatic first down penalty. If the penalty yardage isn't enough for a first down, it's whatever down it would be next.

A punt is on 4th down so it is not the offense on the field. I am okay with that ten yard penalty. Defense is not on the field for an extra play, that is special teams.

Keep current rules but let defense have 12 men playing at once

I think half the distance penalties are unfair. Mark off yardage to the 1 if you need too.
