Worse prediction: Lions to playoffs; go 0-16, Newton is surefire bust

Listening to the Dan LeBetard Show and they're discussing which is the worse prediction. Apparently Dan predicted the Lions would make the playoffs the season they ultimately went 0-16. Jim Folsom, a senior contributor to Bleacher Report wrote an article in 2011 that began as such:

It is hard to be that wrong, but which is worse?

Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust. I am so certain of this that if he is the Panthers' starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay.
This guy will be long gone by then. Here are just a few of the reasons why I believe he will make Ryan Leaf only the second-biggest draft bust in history.

Cam is a surefire bust is worse.

i remember Saints fans on this board celebrating Cam Newton being picked by the Panthers

This "reason" is especially ridiculous.

Cam Newton has never lost a game as a starting quarterback.

Bleacher Report is pretty trash so I would expect them to look like idiots.
Give me Dan saying the Lions would go to the playoffs.

A star fell right into the Houston Texans laps on draft night, like a blessing from the football gods — only Rick Smith, Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips didn't grab him. Instead, they punted Nick Fairley right back into the boo-y night.
Fairley landed with the Detroit Lions, where he'll collect Pro Bowl berths for years to come. The Texans took a former Pizza Hut deliveryman instead. But that pizza boy sure has a lot of character.
That's really what it seems to have come down to for the Texans again with the selection of Wisconsin's J.J. Watt. This franchise may never make the playoffs under Bob McNair, but it's sure going to have high-quality gentlemen on the roster. (As long as you dismiss a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs or two.)
They couldn't bring themselves to take a chance with the 11th pick in the draft. Instead of going big, instead of grabbing the best defensive player in the draft (a guy who Mel Kiper was touting as the No. 1 overall pick not long ago), the Texans played it safe and went with the pizza boy.
Watt could turn out to be a fine enough player. With his "high motor" that new Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips keeps talking about, Watt should be at least a serviceable defensive lineman for years to come. He'll work and work, just like he did in going from being out of football for six months, stuck delivering Pizza Hut in his little hometown of Pewaukee, Wis., to walking on to the Badgers as the lowest of scrubs to becoming an impact player in the Big Ten.
"He's an off-the-charts human being," Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said of Watt leading up to the draft.
Watt is a great story. But it's hard to imagine him ever being a star. It's hard to see him changing games for Houston on defense.

here is this one. This guy shouldn't have much credibility left after this. Even if its just a troll to get people's attention:

10. Nolan Nawrocki rips Cam Newton’s character and calls him a bust
The Pro Football Weekly expert has become the face of particularly harsh draft projections, especially when it comes to quarterbacks in recent years. Some might even call him a troll scout. Nawrocki’s most infamous scouting assessment came when talking about future Panthers QB Cam Newton, who he said would destroy a locker room:
Can provide an initial spark, but will quickly be dissected and contained by NFL defensive coordinators, struggle to sustain success and will not prove worthy of an early investment. An overhyped, high-risk, high-reward selection with a glaring bust factor, Newton is sure to be drafted more highly than he should and could foreclose a risk-taking GM’s job and taint a locker room.

The guy who wrote that is probably a pizza guy now.

The only saving grace in the scouting report you just mentioned is the high-risk, high-reward comment. I don't believe that is a stretch, even in hindsight.

Quarterbacks are a pretty hard group to predict, so I can honestly give people some slack on that one. The Lions playoff prediction is just completely stupid

he said other things though that had nothing to do with his actual play on the field.
I can't remember exactly what he said but it sounded like more of a personal attack on his character which was odd. I guess that's why I even thought about it in the first place.
and usually every scout/analyst will always mention something about some upside involved. After all it is a crap shoot trying to predict what will happen.
that guy has done some good write ups before on other players but recently he's bashed most QB's who are coming out of the college game. I have a good guess why he has a problem with them... probably because of the spread systems that a lot of the QB's play in college.
could do without the character attacks though... its like the guy pretends to know them personally.

Welcome to sports media 101. Are do you play with confidence and come off as arrogant? If yes, you're character is going to come into question. If you're black and arrogant you're almost certainly going to take more criticism than your white peers - and I say that as someone who usually laughs at the idea that criticism is going to be racially motivated in this day and age, but Newton has made me rethink that belief.
