In the NBA does coaching even matter? Talent on the roster is going trump coaching 80% of the time

In the regular season, you can get by without good coaching.

In the playoffs, you aren't gonna win a championship without some good planning\coaching\adjustments in a 7 game series

I think Brooks is a bad coach, but it's not impossible for him to win a championship. I really don't think Doc Rivers is much better. Very similar coaches.
Doc confuses me. I was a huge Doc guy when he was in bahstin. I think he guided an old team brilliantly and got as much out of them as anyone would. But he's kinda been underwhelming with the clips, despite having superstars on the roster in their prime. I think he's a much better coach than brooks, though that probably has more to do with how I feel about Scottie brooks....

I wouldn't mind seeing Brooks hitting the road. He has done less with more.

However, I fear that KD will leave as well, unless we hire someone who can help him win a ring in his first 3 years as a coach.

I don't really understand how anyone could say that. He beat a really good Spurs team and made the finals. They lost in 5 but 3 of those losses were extremely close. Then they trade Harden and lose Westbrook in the first round of the playoffs the following year. They make it back to the conference finals last year and lose in 6 to the eventual world champions (Ibaka was out for 2 of those losses). Then this year they deal with a ton of injuries and they barely miss the playoffs. They were top 2 in the conference for the previous 3 years.

I don't think he is a great coach, so they probably should look to replace him, but I don't think he is some terrible coach either. I think he has done about what you would have expected give the circumstances.

OKC is in a sticky spot. i dont think Brooks is a very good coach, but theyve had great success thus far when injuries dont derail their seasons. problem is, theyve had big injuries that have muddled their results the past few years. complicate things further that they have 2 megastars in this league who have contracts that are about to expire. they need to win next year. is bringing in a new coach the answer? maybe a new training staff(lol)? they really are in an impossible situation where their only success next year will be winning it all. or KD reupping early.

Kevin Ollie to OKC? Durant has talked about how he changed the culture there and taught him and Westbrook how to be winners.

That team will always regret trading Harden. Shoot, with the new salary cap coming in, the Thunder might have been able to dodge the luxury tax even if they were paying him, Durant and Westbrook max salaries.

It would be dumb to fire him now. They really should have fired him before this season.
This could be KDs last season and last thing you want to do is frick that up by bringing a new coach.
They should have fired Brooks before, the timing right now just isn't right.

That Boston team won games because of defense.

Tom Thibadeau was their defensive coach. Doc isn't a good coach.

He sucked before the big 3. He sucked after the Big 3. And he's been average with elite talent in LA.

Doc is a shitty GM, not a bad coach. Clippers have the best offense in the NBA

That team is so talented when healthy. I'm pretty down on Thibs as a coach though. Runs his players into the ground. Good luck convincing him to limit KD's minutes.

What a load of crock. Kevin Durant has averaged more minutes per game as a Thunder than Loul Deng did as a Bull. And for the past two seasons, on par with what Jimmy Butler has been doing. So if Thibs would run Durant into the ground, what is Brooks doing?

I can't believe people in this thread are actually trying to knock one of the best coaches in the game. Thibs has shown what he can do with and without star players. He's an excellent coach with an excellent track record. He would be an absolute home run hire there in Oklahoma.

Thibs typically goes 9 deep and utilizes his bench a lot. Minutes are spread out to keep guys healthy... besides a player or two(the really good ones). Which is the case with a lot of teams.

I don't believe that BS about running his players into the ground either.

Thibs is easily a top 5 coach in the league

That's what happens when people cherry pick games... like the ones that go into double and triple overtime and start generalizing off of that.

Thibs to that team would be scary.

I could see this happening. Besides this year, OKC has been in the top half of the league in terms of defensive efficiency. Having a defensive minded coach with very good offensive players in Westbrook and Durant (both already great defenders) would work very well. Hell, he could probably teach Enes Kanter a thing or two on how to defend, because let's face it, the dude couldn't defend my grandma even if he wanted to.
