That's pretty much what bowl games are, except they only do one matchup or so a year.

And bowl games are essentially meaningless outside of the playoffs. These would be meaningful games across the board for entire conferences

that sounds cool but it would have to be small, like for the top three or four teams in a conference

I'm sure drawing conference standing pairs wouldn't be too difficult

Big 10 and pac 12 tried this a few years ago but it fell through when the pac 12 was going to 9 game conference schedule
