Do you think that we may start to see CBB style challenges between conferences? Seems like a good idea to me

No - not enough non conference game slots.

Title made my brain hurt, but I think it would be really cool. Don't know if it would work though.

Pac 12 and Big 10 had signed a deal to start one and then canceled it

It's a good idea but football is a tough sport to do this. Not enough games.

It's the same reason I don't think 4 teams is enough to determine a champion. 12/13 games is such a small sample size to determine the 4 best teams out of 130, especially when you only have 3-4 non conference games that are what determine the strength of leagues.

You don't need to have a challenge between two conferences forever. You can have a pac 12/B1G for 5 years and then a SEC/Pac 12 for 5

I think it would be really cool to rotate it on a 2 to 3 year basis. SEC/Big 10 for 2 years, then SEC/PAC12 for 2 years, so on and so forth for everyone. Would go a long way in determining strength of leagues

And it will go a long way in ensuring that there are intriguing OOC games across the board

Doubtful. Too many schools already have a permanent OOC rivalry game that they play every year (UGA-GT, Clemson-SC, Florida-FSU just off the top of my head) and then with some conferences having 9 conference games, that leaves you with 2 or 3 open slots each year. I doubt many of the schools with a permanent OOC would want to add another P5 team to an already difficult schedule and possibly only have room for 1 cupcake.

Kentucky vs. Louisville
Florida vs. Florida State
South Carolina vs. Clemson
Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

We practically have one already in the East.

If every conference had to do it, I think strength of schedule would go even more into playoff committee rankings. For instance I think you could see more 2 loss teams being ranked ahead of 1 loss teams or 1 loss ahead of undefeated if teams had to match up with multiple high ranked OOC teams in a year. Say the SEC had the Pac 12 in the scenario and UGA draws a #10 ranked Oregon and loses and also has their yearly game with Tech who is ranked #20 in this scenario, and they also lose but run the table and win the SEC finishing 11-2. They would be a playoff team over a 12-1 team that didnt play the two hard OOC teams imo.

I guarantee Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina in the SEC would be resistant to this because they have permanent OOC P5 rivals.

With ACC and Big 10 going to 9 games, the SEC would be the only league left with 4 non conference slots.

A lot of teams already have permanent OOC P5 rivals in those leagues. Stanford and USC with Notre Dame, Iowa with Iowa State. A lot of teams aren't interested in playing 2 P5 opponents in non conference play.

Clemson plays a permanent P5 team each year in South Carolina yet we still make sure to schedule a major OOC opponent every single year. We've played Auburn, UGA, ND and will play Auburn and Texas A&M going forward.

I expect the committee will reward that and more teams will start scheduling that way.

Yeah, I really like this a lot. I think it would have to be an even # of years (home and away) but I would love to make this happen.

Will this still be the case when the ACC goes to 9?

The B1G is mandating that the teams play at least one P5 team.

What better way than to team up with another conference?

I bet the B1G will be the first to do this.
