They are 15-4 with a favorable schedule remaining. They are the only power conference school to never make the tourney.

Yes. Was gonna start this thread a couple of weeks ago but didn't want to jinx it.

They have a good team, and the Big Ten is down, mainly at the top of the conference. It's the perfect year for them to finally be good.

It's down throughout. Maryland who is in 1st right now would be 5th or 6th best in previous years. Iowa, Neb, Ill, PsU, Mich, OSU, and other teams in the middle aren't good. Purdue and UW have final 4 potential if they can get it together, MSU if they can get healthy are always dangerous

Exactly.

So it's not much deeper.

But then how could it also be down? If they get the same number of bids as most years the entire NCAA must be down also.

Because the top isn't as good, and the league has the same depth it always does...

Because it's not as good at the top, as I stated.

Really not that hard to comprehend.

How can a team out of Chicago in a top conference have never made it?

NU didn't invest in basketball at all. Welsh-Ryan is the worst gym in the P5 and it's not even close. The renovation project will be huge for Northwestern basketball. Phillips came in and the program improved, but he needed to get Carmody out. The Collins hire was obviously huge and he will get NU to the tournament. Most were thinking next year, but they are in good position this year. 4 losses, all pretty close and to good teams: @Butler, vND on a neutral floor, @Mich St and Minnesota. Big game tomorrow at tOSU.

Carmody and Donahue at BC were very similar. Good Ivy League coaches who recruited the same players at P5 schools. Can't win that way.

I believe NW has done some pretty big work on FB side of things but yeah Welsh-Ryan is pretty crappy. On a side, It'd be nice to see them in the NCAAT (just like Nebraska from a few years ago)

When DePaul gets back on campus and away from OHare they will have a shot. Right now they play in Rosemont, 45 minutes from campus and directly underneath final approach to ORD. Yuck.

I dunno. I'll believe it when it happens Selection Sunday. I've had this feeling about Northwestern before recently, though certainly not with this kind of record in late January.

One of five OG DI programs to have never made the Tournament. William + Mary keeps getting close too. The other three are fairly hapless.

Haven't finished with a winning record in conference since 1968 and only made it to .500 in conference once since then in 03-04

That is a DAMN impressive level of suck. I will never feel bad about Auburn's basketball history again.

Much, much better than their current situation, but DePaul still won't be totally near their campus in Lincoln Park.
