Will Anthony Bennett go down as the worst number one pick in NBA history?

It's very early, but the writing is on the wall that he'll go down as one of the worst. After just two seasons, he's already having his contract bought out and will be going through waivers. He has three starts in two seasons, both seasons being played for bottom feeders. Averaging 5 points and 3 rebounds.
I'm not sure who else is in the discussion for worst #1 overall NBA pick ever (I don't consider players who have been derailed by injuries in this). But those averages and already being given up on by his team, I doubt another has been that bad.

He will because he was drafted that high, but to be fair to him, he probably shouldn't have been drafted that high. The cavs reached for him

So much for the T'wolves have three #1 overall picks on the same team.

Yeesh. That's a fact you always want to forget.

The other #1 flops almost all have a GOAT drafted after them or major injuries. Bennett is just not good.

Kwame Brown
Greg Oden
Michael Olwokandi
Are the only others to consider IMO

He may very well be the worst player drafted at #1.

To be fair would anyone in that drafts not be considered a bust at #1?

There did not appear to be a sure thing in this draft class at the time, so to them it seemed like it didn't matter who they picked.

Oladipo would have looked like a far better choice right now. Honestly didn't see this coming from him.

Larue Martin. Or Mark Workman and Andy Tonkovich if you go wayyyy back.

I just looked at the 2013 nba draft again. My eyes are burning.

Just looked up that class, it's certainly not pretty. There's better players than Bennett in the top ten but no real stars. I like Alex Len and think he can become a really good player, same with Oladipo. Very weak class though

They really didn't reach that far.
Most teams and draft analysts still had him as a top 10 talent in that draft.
I don't know why Adrian Wojnarowski is on a crusade to pretend that wasn't the case but the dude was absolutely going to be taken in the lottery.

Yea, oladipo, noel, Len, and bennent all felt like they had a shot at going 1. Bennent was viewed as a big risk but plenty of teams loved his upside. Believe the Philly/NO trade was going to take place whether Noel or Bennent was there.

I feel like the biggest bust should go to someone everyone thought would be a great first pick. So I wouldn't put Bennett in that category.
But since you said
I say yes. Because a lot of people thought it was stupid at the time, and they were right

It was bad but everyone knew going in it wasn't that good of a draft

Definitely agree with that. Worst #1 pick, yes. Not biggest bust at #1.
