Tomorrow night I don't get off of work until 8 PM. I can go get my workout in after then come home and drink a few beers and watch the Rangers finish off the Angels since they don't start until 9

We really need him to pitch that way the rest of the year. I so badly want a Rangers - Cubs world series. My best friend (Cubs fan) and I have been talking shite for 30 years and never get that opportunity to see it play out in postseason.

I love that Texas plays on the west coast and the late start a good amount each year. A lot of the old Astro fans hate it and I guess I can see why, but I love it.

I keep waiting to see if that guy who said Hamels is a below average pitcher shows back up lol.

Hamels is an ace and pitches like one. Rangers are just in a slump, but it is much better to slump in July than in mid-September.

Hi.

And he's only below average against AL teams; his last two stints against AL teams is more in line with his historical trends than the first part of the season.

Against the NL he's well above average. He'd do better being on the Pirates or Cardinals due to his success against the Cubs.

I don't really look at it from this stand point, but I can see why you see it this way.

I just think he's a guy who has the ability to go out and pitch an 8 inning shutout every time he takes the mound, but that doesn't mean he's going to. His command has been lackluster at times this season and the amount of home runs and BB's he's surrendered this year prove that. But if he's locked in then he's a top five guy in baseball IMO.

I'm a Rangers fan, and I'd be very surprised if they made it to the WS. But maybe the recent slump is just affecting me.

I'm the same way.

I got really lucky and just got back from a week vacation so I didn't have to cope with it too much and the first game I saw after the break was the one yesterday.

Hamels is as consistent as they come, 200+ innings with a sub 4 ERA going on 7 years now. His numbers with the Rangers aren't much different than with the Phillies and most pitchers regress a little bit when switching from NL to AL. Calling him below average is poor trolling

he's definitely above average but I would listen to an argument for him not being an "ace". I've always thought of him as an elite #2

Yesterday's game was the only one I missed.

Are those trends particularly useful? It would be similar to saying player X can't hit NL pitching if he only played in 1 to 3 games against NL pitching per year with 0-3, 1-4, and a seldom 2-4. This is the first year we have seen him face predominantly AL lineups and other than 2 starts he has been well above average.

I think questioning their pitching is acceptable right now. Darvish is key. Hammels is great (that other moron, geesh ) but you need Darvish or no chance IMO

and Im a Mets fans, no Rangers but I like that both teams are AL now, I can follow them as well and not feel like Im abandoning the Mets

It will be interesting to see what the Rangers do as presumable buyers before the trade deadline. Another arm or two in the bullpen could make them the favorites in the AL assuming Darvish can continue to progress without any more setbacks.

I'm also interested to see what Bannister does with the lineup. I think at this point he may need to look at using Profar more at first with Moreland and Prince still not up to form. The only downside is that both of these guys need ABs to break out of their funks. With Houston surging Texas may not have enough ABs to give those three and Profar seems to have the hot hand.

That Carlos Gomez gif is awesome. He did hit a no doubter grand slam yesterday though. It won my over bet, so now I love the guy.

Unfortunately a pennant race is NOT the time to be training a new position player. I would use Profar as a super-sub/DH and leave Moreland at 1B (even when Profar is at 1B Moreland comes in as a late-inning defensive replacement).

During the off-season and spring training you can then work on Profar's 1B defense, especially since Moreland won't be with the Rangers next season.

If you love good pitching matchups, Tuesday's game will NOT be among them. Washed-out Lohse vs. washed-out Lincecum.
