Why shouldn't High School Kids head to Europe and play instead of the NBA?

Seems to have worked out for Jennings...

If the NBA changes the rule on 1 and done, what prevents more of the Top players from heading to Europe to get paid for 2 years, rather than going to classes they never plan on finishing?

Nothing prevents them from doing that.

Some kids just dont want to go to Europe at 17-18 years old and would rather have the college experience in America.

If they dont want to to go college, they can go to Europe to play and get paid and then go to the NBA. Nothing stops them from doing that. Just not that many kids want to do that at 17-18 years old.

Have you seen Taken? Not everyone has Liam Neeson as their dad.

I think it could wonders for many of them. Gives them a broader perspective, and exposes them to different cultures.

Culture shock

Not mature enough to deal

They don't treat star incoming players special

However, you are asking kids now to spend half the year in the classroom vs spending a year and a half in the classroom. I mean once the NCAA tournament starts these freshman kids who plan on going into the NBA no longer care about class I'm sure. (well maybe a few still do, but majority probably sign with agent and start work outs)

Well the better Euro leagues probably wouldn't be to keen on becoming the NBA minor leagues, so they may have problems getting good contracts

100-200k a year for a 2 year deal sounds ideal to me

ok...??

And some kids would rather stay in America, go to college and attend class rather than moving over seas for the same year and a half that they would be in college for, just to move back to America 500 days later.

And if you are a big time college player / NBA prospect, you get way better exposure by playing in college than you do playing over seas. I mean Dante Exum is a top 5 pick in this draft right now, but not many people know about him because he didnt play in college.

Again, nothing prevents these kids from going to Europe right now. And rarely anyone of them do it.

NBA people know him, maybe not the casual fan, but Adidas certainly knows enough about him to sign him to a huge contract....

So not only would a high school kid get paid in Europe, they could sign their first shoe deal and become a millionaire quickly

Because 99% of college freshman aren't prepared to live and work with adults thousands of miles away from home.

It's absolutely mindboggling that some wouldn't want to do this. Go to somewhere like Barcelona for 2 years at 18, be able to legally drink, slay OT 10s (you're making $200K and basketball is getting pretty big in Europe), and actually play against better competition?

Unreal
