Why is the Playoff Committee releasing rankings so early, tomorrow noon?

They've been waiting until the Tuesday after each weekend but now, after the biggest week of the season, they have to rush into releasing them less than 24 hours after games finish up?

Shouldn't they take as much time as needed to figure all this out? I mean, they can't even be watching all of these games today. Seems like it would take a while to compare all teams' seasons, opponents' records, stats, SOS, rewatch some games or game tape at least, etc. to really get a solid top-4.

Don't want to compete with the NFL.Do it early and get it out of the way before the NFL games kickoff.

And they should have had a pretty good idea of what they were going to do either way, no matter what scenario plays out.

The NCAA Tournament committee in basketball usually has the bracket set before the Big Ten title game even finishes.

They've been doing it on Tuesdays.

Because the conferences and the other bowls have to know who's available and who's in the playoff before they announce the bowl selections.

Well it seems pretty stupid to go all season releasing the rankings every Tuesday but then release them the day after the final Saturday when we have to wait like 3 weeks before the first bowl anyways.

Because the Tuesday releases were only about ratings. By now, they've met so much that they know what they have to do. The scenarios have already been discussed. They've tinkered the poll the last two weeks to get the matchups they want.

The coaches will want to know who to prepare for as soon as possible.

Might as well. Bowls need to set their slates and fans need to set up travel plans.

I agree there are good reasons to release them sooner, y'all have brought up some really good points.

I just feel that with how crazy it is right now, they could take more than one night to mull this over.

If nothing else, this committee needs to be held accountable for how and why they placed the teams so coaches and the public can know what to expect going into next year. They can come up with whatever top-4 they see fit but they have to DEFEND their answer. An argument can be made for any of the top 6 right now so they should be able to say why they choose them the way they did. They're going to lose credibility no matter what and at least 2 schools are going to be out and mad.
