All the tried & true libs from the poli board are here mocking patriotism, the flag, the anthem. And yet a true liberal is for more govt, not less. If you honestly do not know why the National Anthem is played, anywhere, you really are clueless. I suppose you feel that the fly over by the Air Force is just another form of militarism & has nothing to do with paying respect to the veterans of this country.

I know England and most of Europe has commented on the US patriotic displays before games and sees us as robots to some degree.

Do they say the same things about Canadians? Or did you just make that up?

I think they only do it to pump the crowd up. It's like a hype man.

One of the main issues in this country these days. Everyone feels the need to have to pick one side or the other. And whichever side you're on, everyone just assumes you're the extreme of that side

I agree with this. I also think that the major problem with having a racial discussion nowadays is that we're usually having these discussions in groups were the people think, act, and most importantly LOOK like us- case in point this board, the OT, and that loony poliboard (it's alright though, because black people literally do the same exact thing.)

We lock ourselves in these loud echo chambers, and we think we're actually making progress; mainly because A: The same points are being brought up over and over again (and everyone is agreeing to it) and B: Instead of realizing the flaws from both races and coming up with solutions where both races can come together, we're too busy blaming the other side for all of societies' problems ("well things would be so much better if THEY would just fix their act").

And when someone from the other side does come over and try to offer their opinions and solutions we immediately dismiss them.
"Gee, his opinion is different from mine so he MUST be wrong".

It doesn't help that they don't have any support, so they're automatically disqualified from the discussion. "Well no one else seems to agree with him so he must not know what the Hell he's talking about......"

And God help you if you're the same race as everyone else but you agree with the other side. Instead of trying to broaden your mind and trying to empathize with someone else who's different than you, you're labeled as a "Coon", or a "Sellout", or having "White Guilt". You're considered to have self hatred simply because you don't have the same popular opinion of everyone else around you.

Now BOTH sides are guilty of this. Black people and white people. Dems and Repubs. The most narrow minded MAGA trumpkin and the most thin skinned perpetually offended SJW. The thing is when it comes to racial issues, both side have valid, factual points. Everyone has something they can offer to the table to help progress are racial problems.

However both sides (in terms of black and white people) have GLARING issues that everyone in that party seems to ignore into thinking that they dont exist (or isn't their fault). And when someone (no matter their color) brings up these points the group immediately shuts them down and disavows any and every point they try to make.

TLDR the main reason why we can't have a meaningful discussion on race is that we're huddled in our own safe spaces and are too damn stubborn to admit to our flaws and see the other side. Until we all do this our problems will continue as they have for hundreds of years.

There is really no reason to play it before sporting events. Why don't we play it before movies or plays? Why don't we play it before we open the local McDonald's every morning?

As others have noted it began during WWI at baseball games. Maybe we should play it before we tee off in our golf league or our bowling league. Those are sporting events. Why not play before recreational softball games?

Cause it's America. Those who don't like it get the frick out. Tell the veteran with no legs who fought so you could play this sport.

Because tradition, i doubt you will find a legit answer other than just because it has always been done that way.

Damn it, when I get to my seat, I don't want to stand up for a bad song. The players are already out there. Let's kick off, drop the puck, tip off, etc.

Show up fashionably late, then.

There are ways around this. You know it. I know it

It's sad this is where we are lead to.

For one its tradition to show support for those who serve.

It's sad to question it. You don't have to participate.

What in the frick is wrong with showing support for those who served our country?

My gosh this is where we stand today. Questioning patriotic traditions.

This world is so fricked up now with all these hipster sjw shite

If being patriotic offends you then don't fricking participate.. But nothing wrong for those who do enjoy tradition. I actually think it just feels right to do it then play ball. It's nice standing together as Americans showing respect together before a live event.

What is happening these days

Thanks I appreciate it. .

Even though I don't post here too often I do lurk a lot. I've been reading all these boards for about 3 years now and it's all what I've observed on these boards (which are majority white) and from people I follow on Twitter and their followers (who are majority black). Both sides make valid points, but both sides refuse to see the points from the other side. And it's all a microcosm of society today.

It's part of our tradition and custom.

Other countries do this, too, so we're hardly unique.

I understand at professional sporting events with thousands of people but you will never be able to convince me that we need to play it at every fricking JV high school soccer game, for example.
