"it was put there to troll african american and muslim athletes many moons ago" - colin kaepernick

perhaps included in obamas presidential pardons before he leaves office we can get a mandate banning the anthem, lets start a petition???

This I don't know.... But it is and always will be played at sporting events... If someone doesn't feel the need to stand??? I really don't care... I ALWAYS stand and always will... So be it..........

I agree....Hell if they don't stand, don't look at them. Suppose to be looking at the flag, giving attention to the flag, not the players or other people to see if they are standing, sitting, having hand over heart, wearing a hat, etc.

There ya go..... NOW I will say the reason he didn't stand is NOT gonna make any difference... Sounds like an attention whore who knows his career is going down the crapper.........

That's true

When Chris Jackson refused to stand it was different

If I remember correctly he didn't sit down but he ran out of the locker room after the anthem was over

so basically it was marketing by MLB teams after a spontaneous moment played well w/a war weary crowd.

I fully support Colin Kaepernick's right to not stand for the National Anthem.

I also support the people's right to say "rabble rabble rabble GET OUT MY DAMN COUNTRY! MERICA!"

I also think that both sides are wrong on this issue.

So we start this thread because a guy decided not to stand?

A second string QB for the love of god.

What's ironic about that, during those times there was people in this country getting lynched for wanting to vote, people that didn't have the "freedom" to marry who they want. People couldn't eat at or sleep in certain hotels. Didn't have the freedom to live in certain areas. Hell as a matter of fact, some couldn't even play in MLB. How ironic.

It honors all the men and women of all ethnicities that have fought and some died that gives you or anyone else the rights we have today.

We could be like Germany was during the nazi occupation. Salute the flag or die.

One of the main issues in this country these days. Everyone feels the need to have to pick one side or the other. And whichever side you're on, everyone just assumes you're the extreme of that side

Why did you say the Pledge every morning?

Giant pet peeve. Lets just play.

But like the Pledge of Allegiance, we are the most jingoistic country on the planet.

Pledge, God Bless America and the National Anthem before a sporting event? Nazi's would be jealous of our daily indoctrinations and zealotry. B-52 bombers flying over...military choppers over the Rose Bowl?

What does the military have to do with a college sporting event?

Eisenhower was against the military industrial complex mindset growing in America.

He said the biggest danger facing the US is mixing the military into a "normalcy" and civilian life and having a standing military will just be an excuse to use them for financial special and corporate interest purposes. And he turned out to be right.

I know England and most of Europe has commented on the US patriotic displays before games and sees us as robots to some degree. We use the flag to bind us...because a lot of times, not much does with so many diverse backgrounds. It's a false binding paper chase because assimilation really failed post-1950's.

But even the flag doesn't bind us anymore...everyone has their own flag in America. Showing how proud they are to be from someplace they can't bear living in.

To show respect to those who gave their lives for us to enjoy the freedom we have today.
