Why hasn't a WR ever won NFL MVP?

If Jerry Rice is considered the greatest NFL player of all-time and he couldn't win the award, will any receiver ever win it?
A kicker has won it; a DT; a Linebacker but never a WR.
In 12 games in 1987 (strike) - Jerry Rice caught 22 Tds for over a 1,000 yards. His 1.83 receiving touchdowns per game is an NFL record. He even rushed for a TD - giving Rice 23 for a 12 game season. Rice almost averaged 2 Tds every game.
But John Elway won the MVP with 19 TDs, 12 INTs, 54.6 completion percentage and over 3,000 yds.
Look at the season's Randy Moss had with journeymen QBs!

And the NFL Offensive Player of the Year has only gone to a wide receiver twice (Rice both times).

Because in most cases, like Randy Moss' 07 year, if the WR had an unbelievable season and the team was really good, it's likely that the QB is going to win the award.
No other position is as dependent on one other position as WR is on QB.

Can't throw the ball to himself

Because someone threw him the ball, and that person threw the ball to other people as well.

But why does that perception exist - that the receiver is just some guy that could be replaced with another guy but the QB and RB are gods unto themselves.
We draft receivers like stars, we treat them like stars and we've seen how good Qbs totally falter and suck when their star receiver is out - Eli and OBJ.
But when it comes to MVP voting, it's someone threw him the ball - the receiver didn't do anything to totally make things really easy for his QB by being wide open and running after the catch for Tds.
Most of Rice's 23 Tds in 1987 were long runs after the catch.
Look at how Harrison had that monster year, while Manning's stats weren't all that hot.

The elite quarterbacks of the last decade+ had a revolving door at wide receiver. Brady, Brees, and Rodgers have often played with a bunch of nobodies and made those guys look incredible.

Let's just look at Brees and Brady. Can do this for guys like Peyton too
Brees - Colston, Jimmy Graham, Lance Moore, Ben Watson, David Patten, Sproles
Look how many guys he's "made". Not even counting the nobody OL who has flourished under him
Brady - Edelman, Welker, Troy brown, Deion Branch, Patten, David givens, reche Caldwell, lafell, amendola
Most of these guys played on other teams and where nobodies. All career years with Brady and Brees
There may be 2-3 WRs who transcend QB play.
A guy like Deandre Hopkins is a top 5 WR, he couldn't do anything with his shite QB play last year.

Yeah, I mean, you have to look at it like this: if Peyton doesn't have Harrison, does he still win? If Harrison doesn't have Manning, does he still out up big numbers?
Harrison and Rice and all other recievers can't throw to themselves. They need the QB. The QB doesn't necessarily need that one WR. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees are prime examples.

And, when there are situations with a WR having a historically great season with a so-so QB, it's normally a team that's not making the playoffs or barely squeaking in like Calvin Johnson in 2012.
You're typically not winning MVP if you're not a competitive team.
Overall, it's just really tough. All of the circumstances would have to be unbelievably perfect.

Randy Moss definitely should have won MVP in 1998 and I say that as a big TD fan.

This same question could be raised about WRs and the Heisman in college. Only time a college WR is going to win the Heisman is if he is more than just a WR. Look at Desmond Howard. He was a multi-dimensional player.
Since star WRs in the NFL don't take kickoffs or punts usually, it is unlikely that one will ever win the MVP. They are singular in what they give to the team.

There def should've been some WR MVPs but the NFL is a little racist and loves to use the excuse that WRs are dependent on QBs. The truth is every position is dependent it's the ultimate team sport so regardless of position whoever has the most impressive season should win it.

Larry Fitz should have won the Heisman in 03

That WR still has to get open and catch the ball. Plus when you have a dominant WR it completely changes how a defense plays against you. Hell, there are average at best QBs who have looked really good simply b/c they had a Moss or a TO there to open up the offense.

All starting QB with the exception on Diva Cam had over 54.6 % completion rate. Furthermore, 80 % of these starting QB's backups had over 54.6% rate.
