It was the only thing they talked about on Sportscenter this morning(I don't voluntarily watch it but it was what was on at the gym) like it was some huge travesty that Westbrook isn't starting

The NBA all star game is a complete joke, so why does it matter. It's nothing more than a glorified dunk contest. 10 people on the court, 9 stand around and watch the guy with the ball do whatever he wants to do and dunk, rinse, repeat. No defense, not even token defense, is played.

The MLB All Star game is the only professional all star game that somewhat resembles the way the sport is actually played.

Why do you care that they care?

More important than the MVP Award to some of the savants here.

I don't think it matters now, really. But it's a resume builder that will sound good at his Hall of Fame ceremony. Selected as starter for x All-Star games is better than selected to x all star games.

Whether you care or not, it is absolutely a travesty that a PG on a playoff team averaging 30/10/10 isn't starting.

This would be like a guy trending heavily towards a triple crown in baseball while batting close to .400 and not starting.

It's insanely dumb. Hence the uproar.

Idk. I don't.

It's not like there are guys who don't get to play and have to ride the bench the whole game

This would be like Duncan not starting the ASG in 2002 or 2003.

I'll explain why. The NBA is the one league where star power matters. Popularity matters. Much more so than in any of the other leagues so not being selected as a starter is part of the "conversation" of where a player fits in the superstar hierarchy.

NFL - A lot of the top players skip the Pro Bowl
MLB - Sure it may matter for home field but the mechanics of baseball lineups is such that there aren't real "slights". Plus baseball is not a superstar league
NHL - Needs to fire Gary Bettman

It would be more akin to someone having 200 hits at the all-star break because he bats 8 times per 9

I realize that.

I also didn't care whether Timmy started or not in those years, tbh. Hell he probably didn't even want to be there

Elaborate on that please.

Because I don't see how a guy playing 34 minutes a night = getting 8 at bats every 9 innings.

I intentionally chose the .400 Triple Crown comparison since it's only happened like 5 times in baseball history.

All star starts count when determining how much of the cap a max salary takes up.

Yeah not sure where tf he's getting this.

If Russ was playing 44 minutes a night he'd have a point but he's not...

Like when they attempt to get every player in the game and it ends up in a tie?

Isn't there a rule on the MLB where every team must have a representative?
