Why do fans care so much about ratings?

You arent making more money based on how many viewers the game gets, so if you wanna watch just watch and enjoy the game instead of worrying about "the lowest ratings of all time

only the people who don't care about baseball care about baseball ratings

I do find it surprising how relatively low college football ratings are.

People want to defend their interests. Why is that complicated?

I get what you are saying but that's not totally true. Everyone that works for MLB probably likes baseball and they care about ratings. I make extra $ if baseball is popular so I care...and I like baseball. Lots of people who like baseball care, they just arent gloating like the gays who hate on baseball. Baseball television viewing is through the roof, the purchase price of the Dodgers is proof of that so the WS ratings between the Royals and Giants don't tell the entire story IMO.

They take their cues from ESPN, who has brainwashed America into thinking that baseball is "better" when the Yankees are relevant. It helps them rationalize about their 139 nationally televised Yankees games.

You do when you aren't in your team's market.
