The correct answer here is that they wear the uniforms because it is a rule. Ask Terry Francona about Bud telling him to put the jersey on under his little long sleeve shirt or get out of the dugout.

Because most baseball managers used to be player-managers back in the day. Also, people who are not wearing a baseball uniform that aren't umpires are forbidden from entering the field of play. Connie Mack didn't wear a uniform so he was never allowed to leave the dugout and argue with umpires whenever they made a call. So whenever he made a pitching change or had a beef with the umpires, he had one of his assistants going out into the field of play for him. Finally, it's not like baseball uniforms aren't as unflattering to the appearance of a middle-aged man like a basketball uniform or a football uniform. It's essentially a buttoned-down shirt and slacks. Unless you're disgustingly out of shape, it's not going to hamper your appearance very much.

Some good points here. Another point is pre-game. I used to go to MLB games an hour early to watch pre-game workouts. Coaches and managers are doing stuff on the field like pitching BP, infield, fungo, etc. Easier to do in baseball attire than slacks and a dress shirt. Football and Basketball coaches don't do that level of physical activity before each game.

Yea but they arent throwing BP or hitting fungos in the game uniform. They do that in shorts or the BP uniforms.
