not in between plays it's not. it's not realistic to check pressure with a gauge between plays.

Its not allowed once the game has started. Carolina's kicker realized that one of the balls in his game against Arizona was deflated he asked the ref to check the pressure, the ref told him it isn't allowed once the game has started.

This isnt a story. But it couldve been and it couldve decided a Super Bowl. If it was a close game and a receiver caught the back half of wet ball.
THe deflated ball in bad weather certainly couldve made the difference in the game under some circumstances. But this game was 17-7 with the use of deflated balls. With regulation balls it was 28-0.
we also dont know when the balls were deflated 2nd quarter, before the game, after the half etc....

People have been altering stuff forever. Gaylord Perry is in the Hall of Fame, Bilitnikoff putting stickem all over his legs and hands, Eli pulling the laces out. Bum Phillips accused Ray Guy of putting helium in the ball etc...

If u can get a way with it some are likely going to do it, see steroids in baseball, track, cycling or running the stop sign right by your house on the regular.

Or if the fine doesnt fit the crime some will think this is a good business decision worth exploiting.

Who ever said "if u aint cheating a little u aint trying to win" has a point.

This is on the ref's 100% in my mind whether NE deliberately deflated the balls or not. But I do think NE deserves a huge penalty. This can not happen again and the penalty needs to ensure this.

Equipment must be relegated and enforced just like PED's. Its up to the NFl to police its own game. Its not like millions of dollars, careers and legacies are at stake.......U run a billion dollar business and u allow a team to get away with altering the ball, evidently multiple times......Its not like the NFL cant afford a ball guy for both teams or full time Ref's, for that matter.

now im not condoning it. They should be punished cause lets face it, they did it intentionally and for a reason

Agreed. If the Patriots did this... The outcome of the game is irrelevant. They cheated and should be punished severely for it. The NFL needs to make an example of them like they did the Saints for BountyGate.

Refs were just trying to be polite.

didn't the Raiders intentionally put sand under the field and grew out the grass on their field to slow a team down in the 70's or 80's?

I know Notre Dame has been accused of letting the grass grow long.

Ah, so it's the refs fault now?

Typical of the lack of accountability in today's culture. It's always someone else's fault.

Bc the refs are in the game, they aren't concentrating on the ball for the 1 or 2 seconds they place it down, they are just concentrating on that next play.
