Why can't Texas fire a coach without it being an embarrassing dumpster fire?

The article goes on to discuss the bad handling of Mack Brown and Rick Barnes as well.
Does Herman need to take this into account when deciding on where to go next year?

Texas has decided to fire head football coach Charlie Strong, according to a bunch of reporting on Sunday. This outcome seemed a foregone conclusion after the Longhorns lost Saturday to woeful Kansas. When word leaked out, players were devastated.
But Texas appears willing to let Strong’s fate officially hang in the balance for a little while longer. Athletic director Mike Perrin pushed back on reports of Strong’s firing without actually denying he’d decided to fire his coach:
There are a number of rumors out there about the status of Coach Strong. I’ve said it all along, we will evaluate the body of work after the regular season. We have a game to get ready for against TCU on Friday, and I hope our fans will come out and and support our team. We’ll discuss where things stand after that.

Texas appears content to let Strong dangle all week, even though it’s become almost totally impractical for the Horns to retain him beyond this year and with boosters leaking word that they’d like to hire Houston’s Tom Herman.

Too many cooks in the kitchen at Austin, you need one guy to make a decision and rip the band aid off. They are going to let Strong have his weekly press conference today, which is a travesty.

Most firings are not easy when a portion of the fanbase still supports the coach. Look at Baylor and LSU for references.
I think he would have the full support of everyone in Texas if he took that job. Strong never had it for whatever reason (chance is that some of the brass at Texas didn't want an African American as the football coach). I mean the way the Business School guy came out after Strong was hired was just insane as Strong had a very good resume coming into the job

First, Perrin is an interim AD. Remember that. This is a big decision.
Perrin has consistently said that a decision will not be made until after the end of the regular season. The media has a hard time grasping that.
Strong's last game is merely 4 days away. As we should, we're respectfully allowing Strong to finish the last 0.2 miles of his marathon career at Texas. He deserves to coach his group and make one final appearance in Darrell K. Royal stadium.
After that, win or lose, Strong will be let go. I know the media is trying to beat us to the punch, but that's when the finality will come.
Perrin, as an interim AD, will then signup Herman. That's one of the few coaches that everyone can be excited and will be content with. It'll be an exciting new era in Austin.

If Strong were to be fired already, he would not coach the TCU game. He's coaching the TCU game. A win will not save his job. Strong knows that his last game as head coach for Texas. The media likes to float this out there like it's some big surprise.

then how about not coming out with the he's fired article until he's fired. it's not the media that has a hard time grasping the issue it's the longhorns.

He's absolutely going to get fired but if you're going to leak that he's been fired.....you should probably let him know first.

The media isn't acting as their own source here. Someone is telling the media that Strong is out.

Oh, so the media created the story with no help from Texas. Got it.

Hell, I wouldn't if I was him. Go there and if you do terrible then you'll get fired and get a $10 mil buyout. You literally can not lose.

I think the botching thing is overstated. Everyone around the country gets on twitter after a loss like that stating the obvious, and now all of Texas is "letting Charlie twist in the wind" or whatever by keeping him on for a week.

Pretty much everything they do is an embarrassing dumpster fire. It just didn't get as much attention when they were doing well in the eyes of the media.
Ever since the Longhorn Network was announced, however, all of their dirty laundry has been on full display.

Who's running that Football Program, the AD or the Boosters?

Are you talking about the article from Brian Davis and Kirk Bohls of the Austin Stateman?
They claim a "source" has told them that he is fired. Yet, our interim Athletic Director has only said:
quote:

Also,
quote:
Texas President Gregory L. Fenves could not be reached on Sunday and did not respond to text messages from the Statesman.
So, a high-official, unnamed "source" is the one who leaked it.
Give me a fricking break. My three year old grandson could tell you Strong isn't going to be retained. Strong is 16-20 in three seasons with the Longhorns and may become the first coach to oversee three consecutive losing seasons since 1936-38. He currently has the lowest winning percentage of any coach in UT football history and is 5-10 against ranked opponents in three years. Great "insider info" that Strong isn't coming back for his fourth season.

Unless you're Jerry Jones in the late-80's.

Give me a fricking break. The only two people that matter, the President of the University and the Athletic Director haven't "leaked" anything.

Dumpster fire? It appears that the AD is letting him coach his final game and then is promptly firing him.
If you want to see a colossal frick up of epic proportions, go back to last year's LSU-Texas A&M game.
I guarantee it that you'll never see anything else like that in your lifetime.
