I get where the Oiler hype is coming from: McDavid is a badass, but... they have a similar problem as Dallas in that their defense isn't terribly good. And the stars at least addressed the situation by signing a great goalie and, well, getting healthy. I still think the Ducks are the best team in the West, but I love what the Preds have done. That was no fluke, and they'll be arguably better this year.

As for the East, all of the contenders moved backwards, none moreso than the Caps. Then again the Caps had a lot to give. But all of the top teams got weaker and all of the borderline contenders got better, so its a pretty tightly packed conference again. I'll just say the Leafs because I like their combo of speed and talent. But here's a cool chart on the offseason moves of each team:

I'll pick Leafs over Predators. But don't sleep on the Stars, who got a ton better plus will not likely lose so many man-games to injury again.

Ah right, Bishop and Radulov. Pretty nice off season.

The Methot addition is really solid. I am not saying that Klingy is anywhere near the player that Karlsson is (like that even needs to be said), but if Methot can do half as much to open up his game as he did for Karlsson in Ottawa that could be a great pairing.

Also the stars were decimated with injuries and should improve simply by being healthy ON TOP of signing Radulov (who has sick hands) and Bishop (im actually not the worlds biggest Bishop guy, but he's an improvement).

Also Hitch will have them playing better D.

Stars should much closer to the team they were 2 seasons ago.

That being said....I got the Bolts winning it all.

Plus, Radulov not only has sick hands. Unlike other Russian skill players, he's mean and works his arse off. He was Russia's best player in Sochi. Short tournament I know. But he has balls.

Ilya is my favorite Russian player post-USSR. He's got a dirty streak too.

Where is this Dallas hype coming from.

Did they replace all six blue liners in the offseason?

If they have the Ben Bishop of 3 years ago they'll be very good.

If not they will have more of the same as what happened last year.

The central division is absolutely stacked. Avalanche might actually have a worse record in 17-18

That Bishop doesn't exist anymore.

What's the party scene in Dallas like? Bish loved him some drankin and gamblin at the hard rock.

Threepeat will be tough. By the SCF, the Pens will have played the equivalent of an extra season in the past three years.

If the Blues can't win, I'd like to see Oilers or Flames against Maple Leafs. It's surprising a Canadian team hasn't won in a really long time.

I hope the 2018 draft is a strong one, because I feel like the Wings are going to suck again.

How does the new arena look? What is going to happen with Joe Louis Arena?

I don't necessarily like the Leafs, but they're in good shape

Bergevin is ruining the Habs.

New place looks great. They unfortunately changed picture of the roof. Now it's just the Little Caesar's logo.

Joe Louis will be demolished sometime this year.

The central division is going to beat each other to a pulp. So give me Anaheim, Edmonton, or Calgary in the West and Pittsburgh in the East. Maybe the Caps break their curse but I doubt it. I think Rangers, Tampa, Ottawa, and Toronto are all a step or two behind them

Eta: source - Preds fan still shocked at last year's cup final run
