Who's the last athlete entering pro sports with as much pressure to perform as Lonzo Ball?

LeBron?
Trout?
LeBron might be the last imo. Obviously he was crowned "tChosen One" in high school. But did LeBron have family members telling everyone they could how their son/nephew/grandson etc is about to shite all over the league?
Has anyone come in a pro-sports league with the success or failure of a shoe/clothing company riding on him?
There have been shitloads of super highly touted prospects to enter the various leagues over the years, but I can't remember one with as much a target on his back as Lonzo. Media will absolutely rip him to shreds if he doesn't live up to his dad's billing (even if that's a totally unfair standard).
The average rookie is under a shitload of pressure. Having to adjust to playing the world's best players every night, living completely on your own, having more money than ever before, etc etc etc. It's a HUGE adjustment for these kids and we've seen it time and time again that it takes a little while for new players to adjust to the professional game and life, even if they were expected to be the next big thing.
I feel like Lonzo will be entering with all the normal pressures plus quite a few more. Especially if he goes somewhere like the Lakers at No. 3.

Harper had more pressure

Andrew Luck or Bryce Harper.

Andrew Luck
#1 overall pick who had been hyped for the past 2 years and was regarded as best prospect since Elway
He was replacing Peyton Manning who had basically dragged the Colts to relevancy

Luck is a good one imo. Colts tanked a whole season and expected him to fill the shoes of one of the best quarterbacks ever.

Not really tanked. They went out and got Kerry Collins who was supposed to hold it down and game manage much like he did with the Titans. Just the rest of the Colts roster was arse.

I agree with this. The pressure from inside your on family if your dad is a crazy a-hole outweighs all the externals by itself. no refuge from it. Those other guys mentioned in the thread probably had some family as a refuge.

You people overreact to everything. He doesnt have that much pressure.
Not even comparable to guys like Luck, Tiger, Harper or LeBron. As in its not even close.

Reggie Bush kept getting Gayle Sayers comparisons

I mean harper was on sports illustrated at 16 years old with the headline "baseball's chosen one"

quote:But their pressure was solely related to their widely regarded potential, and the game itself for the most part. Ball has the pressure of living up to his potential, but now there is monetary risk which puts pressure to exceed it on the court AND capitalize on the financial potential off the court with a risky business partner.

And think about the criticism he endured when he first made it to The Show. It was unbelievable the hate he got for as young as he was.

That's what in getting at. The others in this thread had monumental pressure out on them by themselves and the team/fanbase that drafted him. Lonzo has this pressures, plus being the face/lead athelete of a fledgling, and highly controversial start up shoe/clothing company.
Also has the pressure knowing that the man who raised him will be a sports laughing stock unless Lonzo is in the running for rookie of the year/is all star caliber shortly into his career.
The lucks, tigers, harpers, lebrons didn't have those pressures.

Definitely Woods...
Followed by Harper.
Both were declared the next GOATs before they ever won shite.
I mean Harper was called the Natural, the greatest prospect of all-time. It was crazy.
Woods was compared to Jack before he won jack shite.

Add Sidney Crosby to that list. The Next One, and all of Canada on his back. Nah, no pressure.
