Golf is much more exciting when he is in contention

Wouldn't consider myself a fan, I don't hate him as much as some seem to on this board. I don't really follow golf outside of the majors though. You can bet that I'll be tuning in if he's in contention on Sunday.

There would be thousands more people glued to the tv on Sunday if Tiger was pushing for the jacket.

Am I fan?? Sure I guess.

This is true. Nothing like seeing Tiger in the front wearing red

At one point in my life I hated him to the point of wishing he would somehow wreck his life and his vehicle, get beaten with a 9 iron, divorced and lose his ability to play the game of golf. Then all that happened. Now I find myself rooting for him to succeed more than anybody on tour not named Boo Weekly. I still don't consider myself a fan though. It's weird.

If I had to guess I would say the big time golf people, who know nearly every player and watch nearly every event are not fans of Tiger. They can associate themselves with plenty of other players, because they watch it so much.

Your average fans, who just watch majors and a few other events, probably want to see Tiger to succeed:

a) because they don't know a whole ton of the other golfers
b) because the final day is just more exciting with Tiger in it.

I never understood this. He's like Michael Jordan to me. He might very well be a shitty person IRL, but as a young black kid growing up and playing golf in the 90's, seeing him do what he did gave me lots of great memories and someone to pretend I was playing with my friends.

I don't get upset by Tiger haters like I used to, just don't really understand it I guess.

What did he do to become hated?

I'd definitely like to see him get back on track.

It's not weird at all. It's practically ingrained in American sports culture.

We want to build our stars up to epic preportions. Then we want to see them crash and burn. But what really gets us is the redemption story. Everyone loves to see the guy make it back to the top after hitting rock bottom.

Except for miserable guys like this one.

I don't hate him but I understand the reasons some people do

Most of the people that hate him are probably not that much different from him though

I mean, I don't cuss at little kids and unfortunately don't have a GF in every city, so I don't see how.

I don't hate Tiger. I want him to go on wild swings of elite play and utter shite for the rest of his career. I agree it's fun when he's in the mix, I just don't want him to dominate.

Well good lord, if we got rid of all of the athletes that do this we wouldn't have any pro sports.

He was a whiny bitch for a while, matured, and then wrecked his family life. Then he found buddhism, and now I don't know what to make of him.

But he was certainly a shitty person for a while, so I don't know why you wouldn't understand why people hated him.

I like Tiger a lot more now than when he was in his prime winning everything. I feel the same way about Federer as well. It's boring watching one person winning everything so i didn't like them too much. Now that both are older and mortal, it's much easier to appreciate their greatness and root for them to win.
