i don't think it's very likely curry wins again. voters probably won't want to give it to a guy for a third straight season, and his stats should go down with the addition of durant.

durant will probably be put in timeout like lebron was his first year in miami. so he's out.

lebron hasn't been statistically as good since returning to cleveland as he was in miami, but you have to think if he has a great year he'll have a good chance. but how motivated will lebron and cleveland really be next regular season?

who else? assuming westbrook stays in okc, he'll put up insane numbers (maybe not efficiently). but with the thunder sure to drop off in the standings, i'm not sure voters will reward him. maybe if he keeps the thunder as a top 4 seed in the west?

guys like cousins and davis won't be on good enough teams.
keep in mind, the mvp doesn't always go to the best player - rose in 2011. i'm asking who you think the award will go to if you were a betting man.

my guess is kawhi leonard. needs to be come more of a facilitator, but the improvement of his efficiency on offense the last few seasons has been staggering. he's considered by many to be the best defender in basketball, as well. if the spurs can win 60-65 games, i think he'll win the award.

Kyrie.. nailing shots over the 2time MVP should motivate him

Westbrook has to be the favorite, the voters will have to look past his turnovers though.

Lebron could, but no need to go all out because Cleveland is just going to cruise to the finals.

My sleeper would be Kawhi Leonard.

GS will get looked past for obvious reasons and for whatever reason the league has seemingly decided Lebron doesnt deserve it anymore even though he is more technically qualified for the award then pretty much any player and will remain so.

Can the Thunder get a 3rd seed or higher?

I would have to find it but historically speaking the winner typically comes from one of the top 3 seeds from either conference. That Thunder team will be solid but not sure it tops out higher then a 5 seed and Westbrook's efficiency will be an issue.

i think if the thunder are a top 4 seed, westbrook gets it.

i don't think that happens though. they're going to be a terrible perimeter shooting team.

i actually think if lebron has a great year, he can get it. he might finally be out of timeout. but i just don't know if he'll care enough in the regular season. no one in the east made a move to challenge the cavs in 2017. they can just coast if they want to.

Westbrook will have a built in narrative but I agree in thinking that team will struggle.

Nate Duncan was breaking down the issues on their podcast today and it isnt very pretty. They will have a gaping hole at the three and their front court is now iffy without Ibaka(though they both agreed in hindsight shedding Ibaka looks brilliant) and shooting will be a problem.

I honestly think 7-9 seed is more likely then 4-5 seed barring some major FA signing or trade.

absolutely agreed. i would still guess they'll make the playoffs, though.

Assuming that, then I think his chances for an MVP drop dramatically. Again, most MVP's come from high seeded teams.

Going back 30 years only 2 MVP's weren't either 1 or 2 seeds. And one of those was MJ in 88 as a 3rd seed and the other was Karl Malone who was in a three way tie for the best overall record in his conference but was technically the 3rd seed.

i wonder what leonard's odds will be?

i'm sure lebron, curry, and durant will still be the top 3 betting favorites just because that's how it goes. or maybe westbrook 3rd, with durant 4th.

could be a lot of value in leonard.

Probably not all that favorable yet? But not sure.

To me it just seems like the media has written off giving it to Lebron and the Warriors will be difficult given how ridiculously stacked they are.

Leonard seems like a pretty intriguing option and well positioned to take it. The team should push for 60 wins again. Likely the 2 seed, and he will be the best player on that team and Pop will have his efficiency through the roof again.

The more I think about it my money would be heavy on Leonard.

If Westbrook ends up somewhere like Boston in a trade, I would change my tune quickly though.

Not a betting man but Leonard at those odds is a bit intriguing.

I really think he has a perfect storm scenario barring Westbrook to somewhere like Boston to take it.
