did jordan not quit on the bulls for a year and a half? did i make that up in my head?

jordan never quit on the court, he was busy becoming legendary.

wait what?

yeah, its science brah. i've posted my theories for a long time now.

i mean...he has 2 titles and has been a part of teams that have been to 5 straight finals. he has had to be a part of winning at some point

I agree with you. Sometimes I wish Chicken would start an MJ vs Lebron board during the NBA playoffs. That way we can get some decent discussion on the MSB instead of the constant arguing by both sides.

Michael would have 8 right now, you know.

you mean if he hadn't quit on his team?

and he would have had 7 at most. he did play in one of those 2 years the bulls didn't win. he played well, and lost, to the magic in the playoffs

since he lost before the finals though i guess it doesn't count against him for some reason

You think you can honestly use that type of slippery slope argument with me at this moment in time son? Not today Not ever.

that's nto a slippery slope argument. that's an objective statement of fact. shite happens outside the control of individuals. this is a team game with a lot of moving variables. limiting judging individuals to small samples of team play is illogical.

with the small sample, slight differences make huge variances (like the duncan example). when you expand individual accomplishments to teams, you introduce a lot of random variables that have no association with the individuals to be compared.

im asking you to defend your comparative method with logic and rationality

the only reason tim duncan doesn't have 6 is because of a balls random bounce right to ray allen as time expired

Ahem, Bosh got the offensive rebound and passed it to Allen, and Allen made the shot with enough time on the clock for the Spurs to get a shot off.

Wilt Chamberlain is GOAT. Numbers don't lie.

you can use an if and then point out an if. My if is at least something not on the court related. Your if is quite actually sad.

had he never taken a break, his team would have rolled the magic.

You are good at typing a lot of bullshite that means absolutely nothing. Had the cavaliers scored more points in the finals, lebron may not be as much of a loser.

All of the fake arse falling, fake drama, and crying for fouls just bothers me. Something about a man with his size and strength flailing around like a rag doll just irritates the hell out of me

I know what you're saying, and I'm a LeBron fan. It is pathetic that the NBA has come to this with regards to free throws. The game is so fast that referees miss most fouls unless you embellish them. Think about this - LeBron's game is much more physical than James Harden, yet Harden had nearly 300 more FT attempts than LeBron (824-528).

yeah lebron gets the shaq treatment. he's given a different set of rules and defenders are allowed a lot more contact with him than with anyone else

Its impossible to not have the conversation because every generation wants to say that their star player was the greatest ever. Bird/Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Lebron....it's always been there, now you just have media and and the internet at the drop of a dime ready to tell you why their player is the GOAT.

It's the same with the Ali, Tyson, Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr.

But I agree, you are right, it doesn't really matter. That is why I have stopped hating on Lebron as much as I once did, mainly because I can step back and appreciate that he is the best player in the world by a long shot, and just enjoy watching him play. It won't last forever. Just like MJ, his career seemed to go quick. Kobe too.

Can we stop this madness? I'm the biggest Lebron fan in the world. I have been following him since he was at St. Vincent St Mary's. I have over fifty of his rookie cards stored away in boxes. But before Lebron, I loved MJ. And in between, I've loved other players. Nash's smarts. AI's ferociousness. Kobe's cold-blooded assassin nature. DRose circa 2010 explosiveness. Right now, I love Russel Westbrook's mania and Anthony Davis' ascension. And Steph Curry is the best shooter I've ever seen.

i think Lebron's one of the finest blends of sheer basketball ever. he's a hybrid michael/magic with the defensive prowress of pippen. he sees the court like Bird. he's been the single most fascinating basketball player to watch for over a decade now, and he's built a ridiculous resume. all pros, MVPs, taking overmatched teams to finals. he's been the best player in basketball clearly for 5 years and maybe longer. he left. came back. we have literally watched him fail, win, grow from a high schooler to a young man and father. and now he's taking this injury ridden cleveland team up against a western juggernaut. who knows how many more chances he'll have after this.

but for frick's sake. can we stop framing this argument as whether or not he's the GOAT?! he could retire right now and he'd be top 10 all time. but does everything have to be weighed right now? if he loses the championship to the warriors as an underdog (which Vegas will clearly prove that they are underdogs), does that disqualify him from being GOAT? probably. realistically right now, he would be about future five-six years of total domination from really being in the argument.

but who the hell cares? this story is so much more fun than how he compares to GOAT. it's a prodigal son. the hopes of one of the most woe-begotten sports towns in america. a superstar with a thrown together group of scrappers and an injured young gun. the most tv ready team in america going against america's biggest sports star.

enjoy this finals. lebron's team might get blown the frick out. but some of these arguments are patently ridiculous. we're watching an all time great player go against an all time great team (and burgeoning all time great player/ already all time great shooter). it's old nba model vs the new nba model.

fricking watch it. and stop comparing players that can't be compared.
