So you'd take Matt Cain's career over Kershaw's? Ryan Vogelsong's over Kershaw's?

Duh?

Pretty much everyone considered Bum a top 10 pitcher even before this.

They just changed it to give Affeldt the win and MadBum the save.

In 6 of the last 7 years, Lincecum has either won the Cy Young, won the World Series, or thrown a no-hitter.

Not bad.

He didn't have the frame to be an long-time, all time great .. but that's a hell of a short career in the spotlight.

Kershaw = Peyton
Bumgarner = Brady

Take that how you want.

I'll go with the accounting firm of Madison Bumgarner

Recency bias. I went with what's been a current hot topic on the MSB. And it was more of analogy of regular season vs. postseason play, not so much a ring comparison.

Bumgarner because he's on track to be a 1st ballot HOFer and once you get to that level rings put you over the top(in terms of who's career you would like to have, not who's better)

Not really a good comparison, because Peyton isn't hot garbage in the playoffs like Kershaw. Peyton's playoff stats are a little worse than his regular season stats but that's probably true for most QB's since you play better teams on average in the playoffs. But he's nowhere near as bad as Kershaw 5+ playoff ERA

Kershaw’s 5+ ERA is a bit misleading. The only reason it is that high is because Mattingly didn’t trust his bullpen at all and left a tiring Kershaw in way too long. This Kershaw can’t pitch in the post-season narrative is getting ridiculous.

As great as Bumgarner has been thus far in the postseason (way better than Kershaw), if I had a must-win game 7 and I could pick anyone in the league to start it (assuming everyone is healthy and fresh), Kershaw would be my choice.

That's Sandy Koufax level postseason domination.

I know it's probably not a fair comparison since Bumgarner is legit great at what he does and not a role player, but Robert Horry was once asked if he'd trade his 7 rings in for Barkley's career. He laughed it off, not even taking it as a serious question because his answer was a no brainer move to take Barkley's career over his.

But yea, I'd take Bumgarner's career thus far. But if you asked me who I'd rather be going forward, I'd take Kershaw and it's not even close.
