Obviously at least one will be left out, and it could be more if Notre Dame wins out or another conference gets two teams in the playoff.

I don't believe the conference that gets left out is necessarily the worst P5 conference. In fact, I believe the Pac-12 will be left out despite being the 2nd best conference IMO.

I think the ACC is the worst of the group, but I have a hard time seeing Clemson and FSU losing twice, and I believe either will be in at 12-1 given the parity in CFB this year.

Edit: I completely stole this topic from a segment with Jack Arute and Butch Davis on the radio.

Hopefully the Big 12 get's left out again. I think 2 Big 10's and 2 SEC teams is a real possibility.

The way it's looking, the PAC 12 might frick itself out of a spot. The SEC has enough clout to get a 2-loss champion in, the PAC 12 doesn't.
SEC and Big 10 (tOSU and/or MSU) are locks.

Pac-12 most likely. I'd be surprised if any team had less than two losses (maybe UCLA, but they've had a ton of injuries)

There wont be 2 from both, the SEC will beat each other and the B1G will beat each other. IT will be 1 from each.

Eh, if OM/LSU is close and the loser only has 1 loss while the winner is unbeaten and the SEC champ, it's not a huge stretch to see both in the playoff.

If MSU beats OSU in EL, and MSU ends up winning the B1G, but then OSU rolls the rest of the way, do you still keep OSU out?

I say, no. If the goal is to get the four best teams in the country in the playoff, you have to include OSU as well. (Likely the same if OSU wins that game).

I do not see it happening at all. Two teams from the same division, no matter what conference will not be in the CFP, nor should they. I think you should play in CCG or win Conference outright (Big XII case) to be considered.

NC State will end up 12-1 after losing @FSU and beating Clemson at home. Considering the softest OOC schedule in the country, i feel like theres a great chance State is left out.

Our OOC schedule is shite this year and the ACC is back to being the ACC this year. I think consensus among Noles is undefeated or we aren't going.

The ACC gets left out but I don't think the Pac-12 champion is escaping with 1 loss either.

First 3 spots
SEC Champ
B10 Champ
B12 Champ

Chance of obtaining the 4th spot
1)Notre Dame- They have a good schedule this year and it really looks like only 3 conference champions going to the playoffs.

2)2nd B10 team (Ohio St and Michigan St schedule are favorable in the Big 10 this year. The SEC is looking like they are going to eat other this year.)

3)2nd SEC team (Despite having the strongest SOS, the SEC best teams are more than likely going to play each other multiple times. I think Florida or LSU are the only team who could pull this off at this point).

4)ACC Champ ( The ACC is back to it old self and I'm not sold on South Carolina and Florida propping up Clemson/FSU schedule this year. FSU or Clemson might not even face a ranked team in the championship game.

5)Pac-12 Champion (I don't trust Utah, Cal, or Arizona to lose only 1 game in the pac 12) I feel like its UCLA or bust for the Pac 12.

The SEC has a few paths to potentially having 2 teams in. Although, I don't see it happening. A 1 loss ACC champ will be a tossup IMO, and their fate will depend on how the other conferences play out. The race to the final 4 is going to be nuts this year.

Well it will depend how they look, but I suspect they will be heavily criticized for losing to potentially the only ranked team (end of regular season ranking) that they've played all year.
If it's Michigan state losing there's definitely no way they make it unless there's 2-loss Champs everywhere else. tOSU might because of the "defending champ" aspect, which is great for marketing.

I think the Big Ten is deep enough that only one team gets in the playoff.

Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Indiana are better than they've been in the past, and I believe they offer enough competition for OSU or MSU that one of those two will lose at least twice. Given their play lately, it certainly isn't a stretch.

B1G tOSU
Big XII OU
SEC Ole Miss
ACC/Independant Winner of Clemson Notre Dame

Barring a royal screw up loss, the B1G is the only team with a spot right now.

SEC has too many competitors with a loss already to say they are a lock.

Heck, there might be 2 left out if ND continues winning.

Big 12 did themselves a lot of favors by winning some important non-con games, mainly TCU over Minny and Tech over Arky.

Can start analysis by seeing how many undefeated teams are left from each.

ACC: 4
Big12: 6
B1G: 5
SEC: 5
PAC: 3

One Loss champions are solid too, so adding in one loss teams
ACC: 4+5 = 9
Big12: 6+1 = 7
B1G: 5+5 = 10
SEC: 5+4 = 9
PAC:3+5 = 8
ND: 1 = 1

Total of teams likely left in hunt: 44

B1G holding most 0 and 1 loss teams, although Big 12 has most undefeated. Pac looking weak with only 3 undefeated, and took some major non-con hits.

Based on what I am picking I see this is how the CFP will play out...I will probably miss it completely though.

Ohio St loses to winner of Clemson/Notre Dame (Probably Clemson)
OU beats Ole Miss

OU beats Clemson to win the ugly trophy..
