When I think of the top high school defensive players from Ohio over the past decade, it's amazing how many of them threw it all away.

Dareus Hiley was on the same Glenville teams as Smith, Whitner, and Ginn and many people think he was the most dynamic and talented of the bunch, almost a combination of Ginn and Whitner. Never played a down at OSU.

Eugene Clifford was the most talented high school safety I've ever seen. Had two picks in the Army All American game. His 12 months at Ohio State witnessed a litany of self-destructive acts, which apparently continued at whichever community college he ended up. Still got signed as an UDFA but was a shell of his former self and got released.

Jamel Turner was a possessed pass rusher. Seriously reminded me of Derrick Thomas. Was pegged to be a top 10 recruit as a sophomore, then got shot and became a top 100 recruit, then got shot again (5 times), and kind of fell off the radar.

Latwan Anderson was another really talented 5-star safety who butchered the entire recruitment process and then pissed off everyone wherever he went, I think Miami.

All of those guys had NFL talent and to watch them throw it away... ugh.
