re: Which backup QB made you cringe when they had to play?

He would make some really great plays only to turn around and do some of the most boneheaded, idiotic things I've ever seen an NFL QB do.
so basically he was no different than any other Saints QB on a consistent basis prior to Drew Brees?
Heath Shuler... Billy Joe Tolliver... Billy Joe Hobert... Steve Walsh... John Fourcade.. Danny Wuerffel... Bobby Hebert???

I'm not saying Archie Manning is Peyton Manning, but he's better than fricking Aaron Brooks, who wouldn't start on a single NFL team today
I never saw Archie play. I've only seen a few clips and it looked like a circus.
looked like he was running around for his life.

Also, I think the stats argument is unfair to Archie because in those days, all the QBs had rough TD-INT and QB rating stats compared to today's QBs.
Which is why I compared them to their peers. Aaron Brooks stacks up extremely well from 2001-2004.

Manning's curse was that he played with vastly inferior talent.
So explain the 1979 season where he was protected well and had 3 pro bowlers as weapons?

He had a Pro Bowl season and New Orleans posted the best record in the history of its franchise.

True but in the six full seasons that Hebert started in New Orleans, he averaged 10.3 wins. In the four full seasons that Brooks started, he averaged 8 wins, and while that doesn't include the 2000 season and the playoff win, that also doesn't include the 2005 flame-out.
measuring QBs by wins is just as dumb as measuring pitchers by them.

With 15 touchdowns to 20 interceptions.

Not like something else was going on in 2005.
Did Bobby Hebert ever play with the worst defense in the NFL? Brooks did, and the defense was terrible.

Which is part of the reason why I didn't include 2005. I gave Brooks the benefit of the doubt in that regard.

Anyways, I don't mind people not having Brooks as the #2 QB. I get the nostalgia and the state of the Saints back then.
I just don't agree with people acting like he was the worst player in the history of the Saints. He's one of the better ones in our pathetic pre-Brees history
