I have him between 20-25.

He's perhaps the best athlete to play in the league.

You must be a snowflake. You can't put a guy that is scared of contact and plays a defensive position in the top 20 of alltime. He's a one trick pony. Make this about Rod Woodson and it's legit.

Which trick is that? Being the best cover corner the NFL has ever had? Being one of the most dynamic punt returners of his era?

Are you really disputing Deion's athleticism? How do you define athlesticsm? Me, I think a guy that can dominate the NFL while being a very good leadoff hitter in MLB at the same time would prove a guy's athleticism.

And yes, he dominated the NFL. He was one of the first cornerbacks that opposing offenses decided to completely avoid. Whoever he was guarding presnap was taking out of the equation as far as qb's were concerned.

Probably the best pure cover corner I've ever seen but his aversion to tackling made him a liability in the run game and hurts his overall ranking, therefore I think your 20-25 is probably in the right area.

This is pretty much it. IMO he's the best pure cover corner the game has seen; however, I don't think he's the best all around corner to play when you consider tackling/run support aspect that any position on D comes with.

His lack of tackling is oversold Some guys act like he was scared out there. He wasn't a big hitter in the run game. But let's not get carried away. Plus his cover skills were far beyond his peers.

Deion is the best CB the NFL has ever seen. Overall, I don't know what is the best criteria for ranking all the positions together.

I'd value locking down the opponent's best receiver over tackling any time

Prime time in prime... QB's just didn't test half the field at all. Dude was great and freaking electric when ball got in his hands

Overall NFL best player lists are stupid. If you break it down and say best CBs of all time, Deion is top 3 imo which would put him in the top 50 or so.

As far as an athlete, he was extremely skilled, but I don't see how you judge him against a Reggie White or either of the LT's.

If I am building my all time NFL defense, at CB1 I have Deion Sanders and at CB2 I have Leon Sandcastle.

Lol... best cornerback to ever play (which is the hardest position in the nfl outside of qb) probably the best athelete ever. He was also an amazing return specialist. And even stepped up and played an impressive wr position when the cowboys needed him... dude could do it all. Iirc he is also the only person to play in a superbowl and world series

Deion's an 8x first team all-pro, a NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 2x Super Bowl champ and even achieved 53 ints with 22 total TDs particularly since teams purposefully avoided throwing the ball to his island. He was a first-ballot HOFer, top 20-25's probably pretty accurate to reflect his career.
