Add it all up and it is a fraction of what they are making for the university.

LSU athletes make money for the athletic department mostly and not the university as a whole

You realize that 95% of athletic departments lose money. How are they going to pay their athletes $500 a month?

thats departments, most football programs don't lose that. YOu sell out 1 game and you make enough to pay you football team 500 a month if you are paying them year round.

who do you think would be paying them the stipend?

not to mention the students they draw in who pay tuition. Look up the number spikes universities see in incoming freshmen after championship seasons.

You just gonna say frick title IX and only pay football players? yeah that will work

Besides your reasoning, this whole argument is stupid because it will never happen. No university or athletic department has the funds to pay ALL of the athletes in every varsity sport a stipend because they will never be able to focus on just football.

There are also rules against paying players, so obviously some things would have to change. But if we are talking about should players get money, that isn't a factor.

We all know why they can't. Great rhetoric by the way always prove a point.

They bring in way more than they get. Exponentially. They also work more than any student trying to pay their way.

That argument doesn't float.

Just 23 of 228 athletics departments at NCAA Division I public schools generated enough money on their own to cover their expenses in 2012.

Everybody worries that guys like JF at ATM are being used. What about the 3rd string DB that will NEVER make the NFL. If he's there 4 to 5 years, He's provided an education, food, room and board, contacts, and connections we could only dream of. I'm still paying student loans, all these years later. So save that crap. It's their own fault for not taking advantage of everything provided for there time and commitment.

not in the context of this conversation. Should we pay players? that is the question in a vacuum.

When in an argument, point out when the other person is wrong even if it doesnt have anything to do with the argument. Then strictly focus on that

And I still think we shouldnt pay players and more than they are getting paid

i think they should have a little spending money. there are student out there who have student jobs that cover their housing and dining with a little extra cash, and i think they probably work less hours than the athletes put in.

Not to mention that when you start paying players, they will have to pay taxes...Athletic dept's will lose their non-profit tax exempt status... the millions that boosters & season tix buyers donate will no longer be tax deductible...You will see Universities shutting down Athletic Dept's & going intramural...

Opening up a way bigger can of worms than most are thinking about by paying players...

That's actually not true. It's an accounting myth because those schools are, by definition, non-profit. So they HAVE to break even or run in the red.

Most players get Pell Grants now in the $500.00 -$600.00 a month range. Most schools pay at least an $800.00/mth housing allowance to players who live off campus. That's why you'll see 4-5 guys rooming in an off campus apt or house that costs a $1200/mth with utilities....

There aren't any kids walking around hungry or without a few dollars in their pocket...

Just a thought, do you think people could sue the NBA or NFL for having their age limits?

Yeah I remember that case. I can see it happening again one day though.
