For me, it's just too hard of a call for a ref to make, especially 40-50 yards down field when he may have a terrible angle.

The "penalty" for getting the call wrong is way to advantageous for the offense IMO.

But if you hold it to 15 yards, any corner who can keep up with his man should just knock him down if it's going to be a completion.

I know this isn't what happens in college but I still worry it would in the NFL. It would be like watching the strike all over again.

Only one foot needed in-bounds for a catch (like cfb).

If you're closer enough to knock him down, you're probably close enough to make a play on the ball.

The only time it helps the defense is those double move type plays where the DB knows he's screwed, so he just grabs the WR, but how often do you ever see that compared to how often you see a controversial PI call 30-50 yards downfield?

I'd make illegal contact anything outside of 10 yards instead of anything outside 5. I just think it's ridiculous when a defender grazes someone 7 yards downfield and it's an automatic first down.

Blame Jim Irsay and Bill Polian.

That would eliminate alot of shallow crossing routes, would not be good for the game.

Defensive backs shouldn't have to turn around and find the ball when guarding a WR. I think that rule is just a little over the top, imo.

Right. Good DBs can tell where the ball is by the receiving player's body language.

You can already blow up those short crossing routes if you really want to. It's called "chucking". The problem is, if you miss, you're in a world of hurt.

If you really want to protect quarterbacks you get rid of intentional grounding rule.

Also no automatic first down penalties.

It's all levels of football, but I've always hated the fumble out of the opponent's endzone is a touchback and the opponent's ball. WTF kind of rule is that? Why wouldn't you just get the ball at the 1 yard line? Any other time you fumble out of bounds it's still your ball. So you get penalized because you fumble when you're about to score?

This times 1000. Its almost like a mistake in the rules that people have just let go unfixed for decades. It's a preposterous rule that is counterintuitive to playing offense in football.

PI calls have gotten ridiculous and are really affecting the outcomes of more and more games. That would be my first order of business. Completely re-evaluate how PI is being called.

It's nearly impossible to play DB right now. WRs initiate contact all the time. More and more often you see them give a subtle push off or extend an arm to create separation. And the DBs can't do anything about it. And rarely is offensive PI called.

One play that was hilarious was when a WR pushed off against the DBs hand and tried to extend his arm to create the separation. DB got flagged for defensive holding. I guess he's supposed to just fall away and not try to fight back for his defensive position?

Defensive false start. I'm getting sick of the defense crossing the line, making the offense move and then the offense getting called for a false start.

Nah. I love the "two feet in" rule.

Free Agency, the Salary Cap, and all these pro-offense rules that has ruined the NFL. Let the damn defense play defense!

No illegal participation penalty for a player that is running off the field. He is not participating in the play or having any effect on it. If he is outside of the hashmarks and moving toward the sideline without interfering with anyone else then no penalty.

I'd make the SEC west a division of the NFL.

I'd change some of the PI rules back toward the DBs favor.

Every other pass gets a weak PI call against the defense.
