I don't think any defensive penalty should be an automatic first down.

That's going too far, imo.

I don't know if it's a rule but I'd like to see the roster sizes expanded a good bit

Let the teams have a 70 man roster instead of a 53 man roster

Would allow for more depth and flexibility and give some guys a chance to earn a paycheck instead of bouncing from one practice squad to the next

Pass Interference to a 15 yard penalty.

Every single play type is reviewable, all of em.

I would revamp the completion rule in the endzone. Why is it good enough for the ball to break the plane of the goal on a running play then the ball bounce away or get knocked away and its still a score but a receiver can make the catch and control the ball but when he hits the ground and it bounces away its incomplete?

DONE. If you make the catch in the endzone and control the ball TD!

This is going to sound pretty extreme, but I'd like to see a rule change where there is never a first down for the benefitting team following a penalty.

Instead, the ball will be placed where it normally would according to the penalty, but instead of a first down (if the penalty yardage exceeds that needed for a first down from the previous spot), the down is replayed and the 1st down marker is repositioned 6 inches from the ball.

Examples: Ball is on the offensive team's own 35, they must reach the 39 for the first down. On third down the defense has too many men on the field, lines up offsides, etc- the penalty is marched out to the 40, the sticks are moved in such a way that the 1st down is 6 inches from ball, and 3rd down is replayed.

I think it would make games more exciting and more competitive.

Intentional Grounding (really goes for all football)..10yds from the spot and loss of down... as it is right now it is the same consequence as just getting sacked right there.. should be some sort of punishment

One thing that pisses me off is after an extra point they go to commercial, only to come back to the game for the kickoff. After the kick return, another 4 min commercial break...

Good one.

These 7-9 division winners should be on the road when they're playing teams with more wins in round 1.

targeting/helmet to helmet/roughing the passer (these are all essentially different variations of the same rule) all need to be based off clear intent and not things like an accidental helmet collision or a hand brushing the QBs head.

No dancing, no bumping of bodies in celebration, no signaling first down

I agree with shel311 on P.I. The college rule is better. There is NO guarantee that the receiver will make a catch if there was no interference. Thus it's not correct to penalize from the spot. Fifteen yard penalty is more than just, in fact a ten yard penalty would be sufficient.

This is especially true when the interference happens within ten yards of the line of scrimmage.

Tuck Rule - just plain ridiculous

Half the distance to the goal penalties - If you get a 10 yard penalty an inch in front of the 10 yard line, the ball gets placed an inch from the goal line

Having to complete the catch to the ground - Everybody remembers the Calvin Johnson situation

I'd make it a penalty for calling for a flag after every pass incompletion

No more illegal contact on passing plays. Holding and actual PI stay, but putting your hand on a WR should not result in an auto 1st down.

For me, it's just too hard of a call for a ref to make, especially 40-50 yards down field when he may have a terrible angle.

The "penalty" for getting the call wrong is way to advantageous for the offense IMO.

I'd even be for something like a booth review for every PI for a certain length of yards down field, just something to make it more fair, provided it can be done quickly...which I know they usually can't lol.

I agree that there needs to be degrees of DPI.

Personally, I'd make every controversial decision immediately reviewed, automatically. It needs to happen quicker, I'm willing to sacrifice accuracy for time, because a team of people reviewing with replays would still be more accurate than the refs, and quicker than letting the refs huddle up every four or five plays.

Add cameras along the goalline, and change the fumble out of bounds in the endzone rule, the ball should just go back to the LOS.
