What is with the lack of funny commercials in the super bowl ads?

Yes it seems like most are sappy.

I liked the one where they were doing the draft of the animals and plants to various parts of the world.

However, some are too preachy or just uncomfortable....like the nationwide commercial.

I've found a good number of them funny but they are way more serious and sappy this year.

And that nationwide ad was dark.

Apparantly the "dad" commercial is "in".

There's been a couple (I liked the Snickers one) but there's been quite a few more wrist slitting depressing ones. I mean really Nationwide?
