Is there?

NASCAR absolutely fits that.

Classic post from you. Someone disagrees? Better call them stupid.

Classic rebuttal of my extremely valid points.... oh wait, you glossed over them.

You're stupid. You try to call me out a lot, you fail a lot. No sense beating around the bush with you.

It wasn't the most intelligent post.

There is a difference, and I think that definition is flawed.

Training myself to hold my pee while playing a video game against someone else would make me an athlete under that definition.

A sword swallower performs physical feats, but he's not an athlete.

You're the smartest person on this site man. One day maybe I'll be as smart as you and get butt hurt every time someone disagrees with me.

Neither of your examples are comparable to what a NASCAR driver does though. That's like trying to say typing is a sport based of the definition.

Pretty funny considering that I disagreed with someone else in this thread but haven't called them a single name and have just had an easy discussion.

Which is why their definition is flawed.

My definition is that a sport is any contest that requires physical skill to compete. However, not all sports require athletes to play.

Nobody in NASCAR is winning races due to superior athleticism. Therefore, the competitors are not athletes. In order to qualify as an athlete, athleticism has to matter.

What do you base this claim on?

To me a sport is when you're competing in an open motor environment (i.e. directly against competition) where variables can change from moment to moment.

Things like golf and bowling are skills but not sports imo.

Race car driving is definitely not a sport.

I'm going to need something a little better than that.

Would you agree that NASCAR drivers require exceptional hand/eye coordination to be successful?

And all the fatasses on NFL lines? They get a pass because they play the right game?

Yes. But so does darts and bowling. But they aren't athletes either.

Lots of things require hand/eye coordination. Drawing pictures and sewing requires hand/eye coordination. But so what.

Tony Stewart is proof that you do not need to be an athlete to be a successful race car driver. However, when you consider what drivers go through over 400+ miles, it's hard to consider it not a sport.

That's not the only aspect to racing a car, and I'm fairly positive you know that.

They are fat, but they are athletic. Superior athleticism matters in football. Therefore, they are athletes.
