GOLF - I don't consider golf a sport. Walk around with a beer or cigar in your hand, hit a ball with a stick every few minutes. Can literally smoke a cigar while hitting a golf ball. Not a sport.

BOWLING - Sit down with a beer, hot dog, smoking a cigar, get up every minute to roll a ball at some pins. Can literally smoke a cigar while rolling the ball. Not a sport.

NASCAR - It's a race but it's not a sport. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe because driving is something we do every day.

HORSE RACING - It's a horse. Running is what they do. The fact that lightweight humans climb on top for the ride just doesn't make me feel it's a sport.

CURLING - Brooms and tea kettles on ice. Need I say more?

TRACK - Running. It's a competition but doesn't seem like a sport. Same applies for swimming.

---

NBA - Getting close to departing the sports world. Most meaningless regular season. Appears the players really do go 85% until the playoffs and now advertisements on jerseys. It's on the edge.

SOCCER - Hard to consider something a sport when it refuses to tell time accurately and allow players to know when a game will end. Also, the advertising on jerseys. It's on the edge.

sport
spôrt/Submit
noun
1.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

ETA: One of the less subtle trolls I've seen in a while.

This game still requires athleticism and skills, so no.

this has been done a billion times.

It's not a popular opinion, but my PERSONAL opinion is one that invovles the opponent directly trying to stop you (using some common sense here...so discounting checkers and shite like that).

Football, hockey, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc...all those are events where your opponent is DIRECTLY hindering your success.

Things like golf, gymnastics, track...it's more of a competition where you do the best you can, the other guy does the best he can, then you compare scores at the end to see who did better.

I consider something a sport when some sort of defense is played to actively stop the other individual or team from completing their objective.

Everything else is just a competition of who is better at "this" than the others, which is cool too and can be equally enjoyable to watch.

Anything that requires physical activity and competition is a sport. Hell cooking can be considered a sport if you get some people together to see who can cook the best food in an amount of time. I think cheerleading is stupid but I would consider it a sport.

Pretty comical you pick two of the most athletically demanding spots to label as "not sports."

I expected this to be a pathetic troll when I saw the title, and you didn't disappoint. Good job.

I think you are pretty close. Track and Swimming are obviously sports so I don't know where you are getting that from, but I really don't like this debate. You can be extremely skilled at something and it not be a sport. Darts is a good example. The professional darts players or golfers are good examples. The average person can't do what the pros do, but you don't have to be physically imposing to do well in these "skills," although it definitely helps I think (see Dustin Johnson in golf). I just don't understand why people get so worked up over this like the NASCAR guys who will fight to the death that they're "athletes." They are extremely skilled and the best in the world at what they do, I just don't see why that's not good enough.

IMO a sport is an athletic competition with an objective scoring scale (finish lines, points). So golf, bowling, nascar, horse racing, curling, track, nba, and soccer all apply.

Gymnastics, cheerleading, diving, synchronized swimming do not apply according to my definition due to subjective scoring/judgement.

You should try exposing your body to the constant G forces NASCAR drivers do for several hours and see if your opinion changes.
