If there is relegation the league would need to be at least somewhat competitive to the NFL, which would mean better than college football. I don't think there are enough players out of college and not on NFL teams to have another league.

If there were enough players and it was played at a high level of course I'd watch though. More football is hetter

They have one. It is called D1 college football. And it is free.

That doesn't help us get rid of Cleveland for a while

So a shitty NFL team gets relegated to NCAA d1?

You missed the point of the OP

We would still end up with Jags-Titans on Thursday night, because it's the law.

Sure there are, they don't have to have 32 teams. 10 to 14 teams would be perfect, you can also have players who are trying to make comebacks like Ray rice.. or vets like Vick would kill in a D league, and I would love to see it. Would be fun to watch during this time of the year.

I like the idea of relegation. Shitty teams actually get punished, and it forces teams to be competitive instead of pulling a Browns and fielding a bunch of rookies in an obvious tank love.

It's easy to think there's enough players but you need about 50 for a final roster per team and more trying out. With 12 teams that's 600 players capable of playing football at the highest level. If there was a market for a league like this it'd happen because people would watch

I'd love to have football being played this time of year but that would defeat the purpose of relegation and promotion since the seasons wouldn't be at the same time right? And I think it would be more likely for a different league to be made then absorbed by the NFL as a d-league rather than the NFL creating a league.

The NFL gets college football as a free minor league system. They have no incentive to spend billions starting a farm program.

It has been around, and will be around long after American football is gone.

I don't think finding players is the problem. The league making money is. I don't think it would garner enough interest to turn a profit and would cost way too much to run the league.

NFL teams require billion dollar stadiums now and they usually have to con taxpayers to foot at least some of the bill. They ain't doing that for a team that might wander off to relegation for a decade.

That, and the artificial scarcity of franchises contribute to them all being worth a billion dollars plus apiece.

A relegation system would make the NFL system 100x better. Shitty teams have nothing to play for other than draft picks when it comes to the end of the season. With a relegation system they'd actually have to try and win.

Will never happen though

What? Relegation makes any sport far more interesting. You essentially have two competitions at each end of the rankings

How so? Teams like the Browns would actually have an incentive to invest more money into getting quality players/coaches instead of sucking balls every year just for the sake of being profitable. Don't want to pay for good players/coaches? That's fine. Enjoy relegation.
