They dominated the state in the 80s, played respectable in the 90s, and overall have sucked since then. They’ll make a small playoff push here and there and that’s it. Ruston has a bigger population than W.Monroe, not as much competition with other schools, at least in the city limits of Ruston and WM. I’m just basing it off the city limits, how is WM a much bigger school than Ruston and how has Ruston not returned to the dome in the last 20 years?

What happened to North Louisiana baw. All the teams aren’t that good besides West Monroe and they are clearly outclassed. Don’t have the anyone who can cover these WRs for Zachary.

Not sure, in the 90s Ouachita, WM, Neville, and Ruston were all legit. There were good Shreveport teams also. No idea why football in N La has gone downhill.

I've wondered this for years

Surely coaching doesn't make that much of a difference, or does it ?

True, but Ruston use to have some damn good athletes back in the day. The kinda stuff you aren’t teaching in high school football. They have a few guys here and there that play college but not in the #s they use to. You’d figure even with inferior coaching they’d still push out some really good athletes, the area use to produce, now it doesn’t. I’m speaking strictly Ruston, not WM

Weird how N LA football has tapered off from what it once was. Early to mid 90’s they were a consistent powerhouse of elite teams.

Neville has won 4 state championships in the last 10 years and had 2 runner ups. I wouldn’t say say aren’t relevant.
For Ruston though, they are one of the smallest 5A schools. If they were a little smaller in enrollment, they’d be a tough out in 4A

Seems weird since looking at populations Ruston is close to 25,000 and only other school is a small Cedar Creek. WM has around 14,000 people but the school is so much bigger. But then again, I’m not sure how all that works obviously. I assumed if you lived outside the city limits in Ouachita parish you’d just go to Ouachita or a private school

The very smallest 5A schools play against some schools that are literally twice their enrollment.

They aren’t anywhere near as good as Easton or Edna Kar. Nowhere near as good as those state title teams.

I think football changed and some of those programs didn't...

Totally downhill. We need to have at least WM Neville Evangel in the dome for it to be normal. That have Nola teams from sale division playing for state titles. Proof is in the podding. NLA don’t have any talent besides linemen. Speed is an issue. Sure WM has a good RB but overall team speed is not even close to the elite SLA teams.

Ruston has an enrollment somewhere around 1300. West Monroe has about a 800 more students. I don’t know how but they do

We can agree that's a pretty big difference, right?

Under the current rules Karr & Easton have open access in Orleans Parish.

Game Over!

Well I’d think that Ruston population figure most likely also includes the students enrolled at LaTech... so i don’t think you can compare the two by that metric...

As far as West Monroe, those who live outside the city limits really only have one second option as far as a public school and that’s west ouachita high school. Their current enrollment is around 1200.
