It's not regional... I know 5-6 Bama fans and none of them are from Alabama. One said he started liking them because he knew a girl that liked them, one said because there are no good teams in Minnesota, one said because of Saban, and one said he's been a lifelong fan haha.

It's appalling to have the states most populated and largest city be littered with non LSU fans. I see several UGA fans in Atlanta which is about the same distance as NO is to BR. Is it the Tulane thing trom generations ago that despised LSU? Maybe the Tulane thing. There's also a thing, especially amongst the private high school girls who want to be in sororities, where schools like Alabama and Ole Miss are consodered hot destinations for some unknowable reason. Retarded but true.

it is just a city thing. Kids largely grow up to be fans of whatever school their dad went to or is a fan of. My dad went to LSU but I grew up in Texas. I was buying a Vince Young jersey just because I lived in Texas. I hated UT growing up.

It is also a contrarian thing.

Yeah I travel throughout Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit and St Louis and I honestly don't see that much more Bama gear than I do LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida in regards to SEC schools.

Not very many black dudes wear Bama gear, either. It's mostly dorky looking fat white guys. With Miami and USC stuff in the 90's and 2000's it was mostly black guys.

back in the 90s in los angeles, michigan and north carolina were the most popular non-local fan gear. i see a ton of notre dame and texas attire these days. We didnt get too much of the U and FSU stuff in the 90s in LA.

I don't know. But they sure do have the other SEC teams riding their coattails with the chants.
