West Virginia president says Big 12 expansion to 12 schools is 'most likely'

Less than a week after Oklahoma president David Boren said that he hopes the Big 12 expands, another Big 12 president is on board with expansion, too, and it appears they aren't alone. Here's what West Virginia president E. Gordon Gee had to say to the Charleston Gazette-Mail:
"I think [the remarks] are fairly consistent with the thinking in the Big 12," he said. "It's nothing new. I'm in favor of expansion. I think he's expressing what we've been thinking."
Those words are significant. And so is this from Gee, a member of the Big 12's expansion committee: "I think the notion of going to 12 [schools] is most likely."
That's now two of the three members on the Big 12's expansion committee who support expansion. The third member is Baylor president Ken Starr.
If the Big 12 does expand, West Virginia would likely want an eastern neighbor. Gee told SB Nation that has been discussed before.
Gee: Would I like to have maybe another member of our conference in this part of the world? Probably so, but those are discussions that are going to take place, and certainly that is part of the consideration.
SB Nation: In those hypothetical conversations, the desire for a closer school is something you've mentioned to other university presidents?
Gee: Absolutely, and it has been mentioned to me.
Boren is "still frustrated" that the Big 12 missed out on Louisville, and the league has other options in the area that would make sense, including Cincinnati and UConn. The latter would be very helpful if the Big 12 starts a conference network, which Boren wants.

Adding UConn would be so odd geographically

So Gee took a demotion from tOSU to WVU?

Probably should've got Louisville when they had the chance. It atleast give WVU a closer opponent.

Texas and the rest of the Big 12 are so damn afraid to add Houston with Herman there. I dont blame them either

The stupid things I see people post about Coog High never cease to amaze me.
If the Big XII wanted Coog High they would already be there. How fricking hard is it to figure out? A one year wonder, to date, has the entire states of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas scared?

Exactly my point. They are 7 spots behind you while being in a bullshite conference. They are already ahead of UT. That is whooping your arse. If Tulane is ever 7 spots behind us in the recruiting rankings, I will have no problem saying they kicked our arse on the recruiting trail.

Only real options are:
Cincinnati (large school)
UConn (so far away...dumb option)
Houston (best fit geographically)
BYU (big fan base)
Memphis (entering SEC territory)
Temple (you get Philadelphia market)
Colorado St. (you get Denver market)
options are very limited...

quote:If you see them as a one year wonder you are a fool. They have possibly the best young coach in America, and they are now bringing in actual good recruiting classes. The only thing that will stop them is Herman leaving for a real conference/school. If they join the Big 12 he then has no reason to do so

I won't deny UH has big time potential if they make the step up. It would be bad for every P5 Texas school or school that depends on the Houston area for talent
