Started thread earlier today as the favorite for Payton Award sidelined next week with apparent foot injury.

quote:

James Madison quarterback Vad Lee will miss Saturday's key CAA Football game at William & Mary because of an apparent foot injury. Second-year coach Everett Withers said Lee will not play in the game, but did not describe his quarterback's injury during the weekly CAA coaches conference call with the media on Monday. Lee was injured during the second half of a 59-49 loss to Richmond this past Saturday - the Dukes' first of the season. The redshirt senior was seen hobbling on the sideline and was replaced by sophomore Bryan Schor, who is expected to start for JMU (7-1, 4-1) against nationally ranked William & Mary (5-2, 3-1). When asked if Lee's injury is season ending, Withers replied, "I didn't say that." He didn't provide a potential timetable for Lee's return.

Damn....didn't realize that Lee got injured. Looks like Cardon Johnson and Khalid Abdullah's workloads just got a bit bigger.

Even with the injury he had 5 TD's last week. The offense did not stop scoring but their Defense stopped playing in the 4th (gave up 31 points in 2nd half)

McNeese State had their worst defensive game of the season giving up 27 points and over 400 yards to the Stephen Rivers led Demons. A couple of key turnovers via interceptions allowed the Cowboys to pull away late in the game. .

McNeese also had a much more balanced offensive attack, with slightly more passing yards than rushing yards, which I'd imagine is a first this season. Especially encouraging given the fact the weather was pretty ugly.

Overall, disappointing we gave up so many points to a bad team that stayed in the game longer than they should have been, but 7-0 is encouraging.

McNeese needs to continue to play well. Any of the remaining teams could give us trouble.

Griz won 42-16 behind 6 touchdown passes from their 3rd string QB. Set or tied a school record I believe. Pretty strong defense after North Dakota's opening touchdown.

That offense that Northwestern had looked a lot better than any offense McNeese has seen this year though.

And I think it was a lot better than that record indicates. Rivers is legit, and that receiver (Eagan) was one little pain. Still, they held them to only 105 yards rushing, and 400 yards total.

Two of the Three TDs were blown plays. The Kickoff looked like someone got out of their lane. Blumenthal hit a lane and was gone on that 62 yard run, no one on the back end of that one. I think Rivers' last TD might have been a blown coverage too, can't remember.

Regardless, take that opening kickoff away, and it's a 4 TD blowout. The yardage doesn't concern me. Yards don't win games. The announcers pointed out during the game that it was the most points McNeese has given up this season. It was also the most points they've scored this season.

They may give up points, but they can score too. This is a very dynamic offense. With Ryan Ross running like a man possessed, and Sams being the threat on the ground and through the air that he is, you've got a two-headed monster in that backfield.

My one concern was the air balls that Sams was throwing up throughout the game. I don't know if the ball was wet, or he ate some popcorn before that game, but that is concerning. Take the air out of the ball, and that game gets out of hand quick. They had several missed opportunities early, and I thought it should have been much worse at half time than it was.

None the less, its a win, and we move up in the polls. If the status quo holds, it looks like a Top 10 show down on November 7th with Sam Houston. My concern is that Sam has a DII (albeit a good DII) this saturday, while we are making the long ROAD trip (supposedly if it were 8 miles further they could have flown? Someone needs to change that rule, ridiculous) to Abilene.

That may not be much need for concern, though, considering Abilene just got beat by UIW, who we blasted 43-6 earlier this year. Abilene's only wins this year are against SFA and HBU--not a who's who in the Southland this year.

Shaping up for a good year. I have to catch myself every once in a while, because this really looks like a very, very, VERY good team. I don't want to say great yet, but I'm excited. I just hope it keeps up and we can go into the playoffs rolling.

There are 7 games that match top 25 teams, so it will be a huge bracket setting weekend.

Games that affect the bracket:

2 Coastal @ 24 Charleston Southern
17 Griz @ 12 Portland St
9 JMU @ 16 William & Mary
13 EKU @ 1 Jax St
25 Youngstown @ 23 Western
21 INS @ 3 ILS

22 Dartmouth @ 15 Harvard, will be a key game for the SLC, and Southeastern in particular. I think the Lions need a Crimson win.

Do you think its a big game because a Dartmouth loss will help SLU get back in the top 25? I know the Ivy doesn't play in the playoffs so Dartmouth losing won't cause them to not steal an at-large.

Looking at those 7 games 4 of those teams can drop out, allowing SLU to get back in this week. We need to win, and win BIG, in Conway, it's one of our last chances to impress the committee.

Yes a loss by any of the lower 25 helps.

It is not EKU the Gamecocks need to worry about, it is Eastern Illinois.

What's the point of ranking Ivy League teams if they don't participate in the playoffs?

Well they rank teams on probation in some polls also, and if they're deserving then they get ranked. It was rare that you saw an Ivy ranked above 16, but since they expanded the field, they seem to rank them.

Another thought about one of those games the Youngstown Western game is basically a playoff game, the loser is out of it.

Charleston Southern and Montana are in elimination mode, lose again and done.

Whose travel rule?

Hell, McNeese was planning on taking a bus to Mizzou til Robert Noland ponied up the money for a flight.

It has to be a school rule. Because they flew to SMS both times they played us in Springfield. Are they in a money crunch again? The Conference or NCAA can not dictate how you travel to a game.

Just what I read on another forum. May be completely false, I don't know. Looking back, it was probably someone's assumption.

Budget crunch would make sense though.

Either way, that is a long way to go. Doesn't make that game easy, although our guys didn't seem to have that trouble at Conway. Their trouble there was a very good UCA team. I don't think that will be a problem in Abilene, as long as they show up and do work.

Just saw that Lee had surgery today and is done for the year. Rough year for the elite QB's of the FCS.

I'm nervous about every game. McNeese always seems good to drop a gimme, or get blown out of a big game. I'm hoping that won't happen this year.

I'm not worried about the travel. They'll travel Friday, and then back Saturday night. They'll be back by 2 am, nothing for a bunch of college kids.
