I failed to qualify (by ALOT) last year, so I'm taking revenge this year.

I have no idea what's gong on with my swing right now. I mean, seriously. frick this swing.

I played Olde Oaks yesterday. 4 birdies YAY and 4 doubles WTF. Shot 78, but it's like I forget what the frick I'm doing out there.

Coincidentally, three of the four doubles followed the birdies. Reverse bounce back stats FTW.

Serious question, how much did you guys practice to get into the 70's? I don't have much time to practice and basically played myself into the low 90's and am hoping to break into the 80's consistently. Shot an 87 once last year and have been stuck in the 90's since. I have the short game of a single digit handicap but hit the ball all over the lot.

ETA: I know the answer is a lot, just looking for how many times a week did you actually go to the range, how long it took, etc

Actually, unless a few more people sign up today, there will not be qualifers and everybody would be in the championship. They have 140 signed up now. I bet they wont hold qualifers unless they.get over 165 entries.

I started playing 23 years ago and average about 3 large buckets + 1 round a week since then. Broke 80 for the first time my fresman year in HS (4 years after I started).

Hoping to be able to do this soon. It makes no sense that I can chip and putt which is what most people struggle with, but have no consistency with everything else.

Or on the days where I am hitting it pretty good, I have a blow up hole and the round goes off the rails from there

Trust me I know. The last 2 rounds it was #6 at La Tour. Went into it at +3 both times and left it +7. Tough driving hole with water on both sides, set up to hit the draw I had been hitting on the 5 previous holes and hit a fade into the water. Next time I may try 7i, 7i, wedge, and try to 2 putt and get out with bogey

What do you mean by this? How many Putts are you having? Are you consistently chipping within 6-8 feet? So within 50 yards you are lights out?

I think I would rather have that skill set and need to work on the long shots. Right now, I am struggling on my short game, but putting much better. I really have no idea of how to hit a proper chip when on the course. I practice and can get pretty consistent, but during a round I can't chip worth a shite.

It's hard to believe, but yes. We got 12 holes in Sunday and I had 16 putts. Dunked a tee shot on 160 yard par 3, went to drop area which was 65 yards out and hit it to 10 feet and made the putt. From 100 in I am pretty solid and I average one 3 putt a round. That may go up if I start hitting more greens, but I do chip and play out of the sand (except fairway bunkers) better than someone who shoots the score I do by a mile. Most of the time it is my tee shots that get me into the most trouble and I compound the errors from there.

ETA: My wife's dad is about a 3 and he said my main problem is course management after bad shots

I have been able to reduce these errors the most over the past couple of months. Now I am hitting more second shots from the fairway, but my accuracy on irons/hybrids is so poor, that my 3rd shot is usually out of the shite or a short chip to the green. From then it is almost 50/50 whether I have a good 3rd shot then hopefully leave myself a makeable par, which I usually miss. frick.
