We always hear about the committee taking so many factors into consideration

So why does it seem like we get rematches every so often in the first round? USC/Providence was a rematch from last year, you had TAMU and BYU play each other back to back a few years ago, and seems like Baylor and Duke are in the same region every year. Shouldn't they emphasize a little more diversity? I get the logistics are probably tough when setting it all up but it always kind of annoys me when that happens.(There are more examples but it's early and Tito's.)

Felt sorry for you when I saw that you had no responses to your post. So I'll answer your question.

No.
The committee is trying to seed teams according to how good they are. There is no diversity component in that process. The games are scheduled by region so that fans are close enough to see their teams play. There is no diversity component in geography.
When you factor the seeding process with the regional part, it's not surprising that rematches occur.

They suck at this.

It's actually to keep the schools/players as close to campus as possible but still you'll see teams get sent across the country depending on how the seeding shakes out.

Does MENSA know about you?

And USC/SMU will be a rematch from this year.
.
Committee has been doing this for years, looking ahead in the brackets to create buzz or ratings...By manufacturing a storyline.

I think a lot of it is laziness. They certainly do what they can to pump up ticket sales but like you said you see the same random matchups and random teams being in the same region a lot.
