Was Dale Earnhardt the last Southern hero?

It hasn’t been focused on much, but when he died there was a large segment of the blue collar community all over the South that grieved in a real way. I’m talking about hardass welders and shite breaking down in tears.

Maybe this should be on the OT? I’m having a hard time identifying another person like Sr.

Strom Thurmond lived for two years after Earnhardt died.

Well, he stole a man’s wife when he could get what he wants. No hero in my opinion.

Nah. Bo and Herschel will receive similar reverence when they pass one day. Same with Hank Aaron. Plenty of Southern sports legends. Of course, very unlikely any of the current ones die competing in their sport the way a driver like Sr did.

There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth when Hank Jr. dies.
