re: Vikings fan reactions to the missed FG

As a long time Viking's fan and Minnesota native, I'm used to this. I really think we're cursed. The worst moments in Viking's history for me:
1. Drew Pearson's push-off that wasn't called giving the Cowboys the win and coining the phrase "Hail Mary."
2. Gary Anderson's missed FG in the 1998 NFC Championship game. He was the only kicker in the league that year to make every single extra point and FG up to that point.
3. Coming off a time-out, a too many men on the field penalty which took us out of FG range in the 2008 NFC championship game against the Saints. Favre then threw an interception. To throw salt on the wounds, the Saints had injured Farve on a dirty hit which injured his ankle or he would have run for the first down. It was later found out that the Saints had a bounty out on Favre.
4. Today's missed FG.
5. All four Super Bowl losses.

The whole "laces out" thing is largely irrelevant. That only mattered when guys used to kick straight on with their toes. Everyone kicks "soccer style" now. He drilled a much longer FG earlier in the game with the laces in.
Bottom line, the kick was at a bit of a tough angle for a right footed kicker and he over-compensated for what would be a natural push by hooking the ball. He probably nails that kick in the regular season. The moment got to him and he tried to make certain he made it rather than just going through his natural motion

quote:agreed. He just didn't kick it well. It was only 27 yards. It really is inexcusable to miss from there in the nfl.

They're all kinda weak compared to the Kick 6 gold.

That IS a tough act to follow...but I got a huge laugh out of the last video here the woman slams her drink down on the floor and storms off...and you hear the guy quietly say OH DEAR.

It was not Jeff Locke's fault, and I love to blame Jeff Locke because he is a very bad punter. By the way, Walsh nailed the 47 yarder today with the laces in.
It was 0 degrees, Locke was wearing gloves today, and he almost never wears gloves. It was not worth turning the ball with gloves on a slippery, frozen turf.
The problem was that the Vikings did not kneel down on the right hash mark on third down. Despite being a righty, Walsh prefer the right hash mark since his kicks almost always hook left (as you can see).
Walsh misses way too many, and it was his fault for missing a chip shot. The hold was not ideal, the left hash mark was not ideal, and the weather was tough, but it would be intellectually dishonest to blame anyone besides the professional kicker who missed a god damn 27 yarder.
As for me, this was only the third most painful loss as a Vikings fan. I was too young for the 1975 Hail Mary push off or 1987 against the Skins, but 1998, 2009, and now 2015 are haunting. It is a really shame because it was such a fun year. I just wanted one playoff win, especially because they had the game all but won. Seattle is the Houndini of the NFL. That bad snap play makes me sick.

Funny, Favre sure didnt seem to have trouble running around in the pocket right before he threw it. Face it, he choked and made a terrible decision.

It's obvious we can start referring to Blair Walsh as "The Mule" and one helluva model American ?
