He did start it. He bumped her a couple of times. She didn't like it and said something. He then reacted negatively to her, then it escalated.
You know all he had to do was apologize even if she was drunk and said something stupid. Any smart guy would have defused that situation and any smart scholarship athlete would really go out their way to defuse it.

This happens all the time at a crowded bar. It's usually no big deal.
And you don't know what he said. He may have apologized. "Excuse me, 'scuse me. Oh, sorry. My bad". Who knows? Drunk girl might not have accepted his apology because she's dumb and drunk.

The guy wasn't " forcing" himself anywhere although it is obvious the girl was waiting in line first.
When the previous girls leave it probably seemed like an opening to him & he tried to step to the bar.
