Should be suspended for rest of postseason imo

Well the Dodgers have about two games left more than likely in their season

He should have been called out at second, and the runner should have been called out at first because of Utley's actions in destroying the chance at the double play.

I'm not an expert on MLB and I don't know the rule, but IMO this is a good solution.

Jung Ho Kang broke his leg 2 weeks ago on a bad slide and Coghlan wasn't suspended

Coghlan's slide was not even remotely close to that atrocious play last night. Coghlan's slide was completely legal play. Comparing the two events as the same is incredibly ignorant.

Coghlan didn't slide at the bag at all, and his shin hit close to Kang's knee. I never said it was worse than Utley's, but he still broke Kang's leg in the process (Kang is going to be lucky to be ready for the season opener) and wasn't suspended. My point isn't to defend Utley's slide or to say that one slide was dirtier than the other. My point is that it's a bad call to decide to suspend somebody now when you never have before in this situation. shite, whoever the hell broke Posey's leg wasn't even suspended when they changed the rule. Change the rule, but don't hand down a suspension for the first time ever in this situation in the playoffs.

Wrong.

Coghlan actually slid. Utley did not really slide.

I guess you could call that a "slide", but he is hitting Kang's shin right as his other leg makes contact with the ground. Kang's injury is worse than Tejada's, by the way.

Coghlan's slide actually started before he got to the base and didn't hit him high, he came in low. You can't really compare the two, Utley did not attempt to slide til he was even with bag and intentionally hit him high taking out his knees.

Coghlan is sliding because that is about 5 feet in front of second base, where a base runner would actually be sliding. Utley didn't even start his tackle until he was AT second base. Utleys play was dirty. Coghlans was not. That does not mean that if the rule is tweaked Coghlan wouldn't have been suspended, but there is a very large difference in the two incidents. One was disgusting and dirty and one was not.

The two aren't similar, imo.

That one is in front of the bag

Utley's was definitely worse, I agree. But Coghlan's was a bad slide, too. He slid early because that's where Kang was. He also slid about 3 feet wide of the bag, because that is where Kang was.

Neither players made attempts to be safe on the play, and both were bad slides. Utley's was definitely worse, and it was definitely less of a slide attempt than Coghlan's. I have never disagreed with you on that.

Coghlan could reach the bag, so it's legal.

Yeah, that's bad. Both he and Utley went in high, and that's really fricked up imo.
