I think our performance in the Confederations Cup will give us a lot of confidence moving forward. With a good draw in the group stage, I think this might be the first year the Yanks are expected to advance to the knock out round. I like the US to move to the second round of the knockout stage, and if we are lucky to the quarterfinals. However, if this team plays to it's potential they have shown they can play with the best in the world and win.

with davies going out, that hurts. if we dont have gooch, making the knockout round would be overachieving imo

goochs presence is a must have

Gooch should be playing again by March. That gives him a few months to get in shape. I think he'll be fine.

I'd be disappointed if we don't make the knockout stage, after 06. I'd like to see us rebound. Obviously, from there, I'd like to continue winning, but wouldn't be too mad, as long as we make the final 16.

everyone needs to be cheering like a mother fricker for russia and france to lose

i think argentina will drop below us in the rankings tomorrow, and we could snag a top 8

Gooch Sucks

Charlie's absence hurts us the most. As cliché as this sounds, the best part of the team now is the heart. For years it's been said about how hard we play but we always lack the talent. Our talent isn't quite there yet, but they still have the fight of a Claudio Reyna and in them. A decent draw could see us to the quarters.

does a trip to the quarters mean four more years of bob ball?

This is our catch 22. I hate Bob ball, and he would probably be gone if we don't make it to the group stages. But I would be utterly devastated if we didn't get to the knockout stages of the WC.

i figure either way bob is safe for two years after the world cup bar an absolutely pathetic showing even worse than 2006. there wont be too many big names out there to bring in (especially if sunil is going to be a dick like with klinsmann) most of the european guys will probably sit back and wait for a good opportunity and wait till the WC qualifiers start.

Quite possibly a bigger problem than Bob. I can't stand him.

It's tough for a reputable name to take the US job, given our, well, reputation. They would automatically suck just because they were affiliated with the US side. I think we will have to make it to the WC finals at least to start garnering some of the R word.

To be fair, we've been seeing less of Bob ball lately. The possession has been good, especially with players like Feilhaber and Torres in the mix. In fact, Bradley's made a lot of progress with his team selections. I just hope he picks up Jermaine Jones, Edgar Castillo, and Maurice Edu for friendlies. And chooses the right striker partner for Jozy.

the us was a hot topic after 2002, but arena was firmly entrenched as the manager and change wasnt necessary. that was a great world cup. still remember skull fricking portugal in that first game and then mexico in the knockout round. i was also 16 and my biggest worry in life was waking up early enough to watch the late games and how much marijuana i had.
